Do NOT give this person access to your computer. He told me to do a DOS command: dir/s, which I know lists directories. He told me that's how many viruses I have on my system and that he was calling from Microsoft. He wanted me to give him remote access.

NO. uh-uh... won't happen.

Then, he was going to tell me how to fix the viruses. Lucky for me, I understand this stuff, eh? I told him I had no idea who he was and wouldn't do anything from some random caller, anyway, to give me his number. He gave me 1-800-491-3022, but I *69'd the number and got this 801 area code.

Off to report the number to someone. Not sure who, but don't do what they want you to do or they could be using your computer for other purposes without you ever knowing.

Over the past few weeks we have had too many calls to count from this number.  Either it is a hang-up or as many of you have stated say they are from Windows and they are getting error messages from our computer.  I specifically asked to speak to a supervisor who also had a foreign accent (they all do--seems either Indian or Pakistani) who became very beligerent when I told them to immediately stop calling and was going to report them as we are on the do not call list.  His response was since they were continuing to get error messages from our computer--they would continue to call so until we allow them to fix it they will keep calling every time they got a message from our computer.  I told him they were a scam and to STOP CALLING now and do not call back.  He then asked for the definition of a scam because he did not understand that word.  

I hung up.  Not sure who we can or should contact but will be reporting to the Do Not Call Registry.

Do not buy the software they ask you too!  What that software will do once you install it allows them total access to your computer!  Which gives allows them to hack into your personal accounts.  I am so glad that I hung up on them prior to installation.  From what I hear, they are able to access all your bank accounts and clean you out.  I feel sorry for those who installed and purchased the software and hope that you get this message and do not install.

This number has called 6 or 7 times today.....We are sick of it!  When we answer no one is there.

You're lucky. They called me at least 12 times today alone. I wasn't home for the first 9 calls so the answering machine picked up but they always hung up. I asked them to stop calling when I got home and someone actually spoke to me. She hung up. I had two more calls after that. The last call was after 9:30 pm. People like this should be run out of town for being a nuisance.

call on 6-22..when I answered she asked for my husband, I told her to take our # off of their list....she said I didn't know why she called and would not take our # off before we listened to their speel, I told her I had their # and would report them, she hung up.      I feel sure this is a made up # for them.

Keep getting calls, no one there when I answer.

Calls and after a couple seconds of silence,  says "Good-bye" and hangs up.

got a call 2 days ago at 6:59 pm. no message.

We just received a call from this number.  The person on the other end said that they have been getting a lot of error messages from our internet explorer and they needed to check it out.  Our volunteer put them on hold and when she got back to them, they were no longer there.  Thank heaven for caller ID.

Trying to sell PC speed power for my computer.  Can not get them to take me off their call list.

This number must be a hub to route calls through. I received a call from this number as well.  The message left was from a Stephanie Lightner (sp?) that said to return her call at 520-325-4667.  This number is for Burton Lippman Law Group in Tucson, AZ. They are a collection agency.  Sounds like they are trying to be sneaky.

you cant call telemarketers back often because they use "automatic dialers"..these are programs that run through hundreds of telephone numbers a minute until someone picks up the phone. when a real person answers, its routed to a phone being manned by some moron and he takes over teh call as if made himself.  the problem is the automatic dialer assigns a random number as the callback so when you dial it, it routes to a machine or simply never connects.

801 410-7985 on my caller ID. Left no message. When I dialed the number I got a recording saying the number is a disconnected or non-working #. Go figure!!!

I'm not sure who this is? but they call us repeatedly, and do not respond when we answer. This time my husband answered, they asked for Whiteman? my husband asked the caller who he or she was. He didn't get a responsed, the person immediately hung up.

This perso. Called me,after 9pm and than called a second time a little after,930pm i awneser with helo no voice slammed my phone down right away.

These idiots keep calling here too. A few times a day. When they actually respond, they say that they are calling about a problem with my computer and need to speak with the owner. I usually say something like "You must think I'm really stupid, eh?" and they immediately hang up. But the calls don't stop. Now, if I answer they usually just hang up. I think they are trying to wait until someone stupid answers or something so they can carry out their scam. But everyone in this house knows better.
Once, I played along just to see what they wanted from me. He had me go into my computer's registry and was asking for information from a certain directory. He was like "now tell me what it says there?" and I was like "What is it supposed to say?" and he just kept telling me to tell him what it said. I know that if I gave him the info he was asking for, he would then be able to access my computer remotely.
What pisses me off the most is how these people are able to get away with this for so long. This has been going of for well over a year. I look up the number online and find hundreds of reports for the exact same number. So how does no one bust them? If the government is allowed to spy on everybody for the sake of justice and what-not, then how come they can't bust these obvious scammers? Worthless....
