I keep getting a msg about automatic renewal of Norton virus protection for $499.99. it pops up from my calendar and has 6 links to click on. I have never used Norton. The calendar event lists a random Host.. todays event lists lisy.117390@edu.smevr... as the host. DO NOT CALL OR CLICK ANY LINKS. reverse lookups do not have any info on the number except it comes from California

The creators of the Android and iOS phone operating systems as well as Google decided that users would really want anything that appeared to be an appointment or calendar event in an email or text to be automatically added to their calendar (basically the attitude of "We know how you want to use your phone and email better than you do.").  Spammers and scammers have discovered this and take advantage of this "feature" which is turned on by default.

Now, as to it getting into  your calendar, this is a problem that has not been solved by apple or google.  The scammers are exploiting a vulnerability ans so far there isn't a "cure" other than changing your settings.  From Search Assist:
