Scam Alert – TD Bank Impersonation Call

We received a call from a male claiming to be from TD Bank, asking to speak with the accounts payable department. He had no names or account info, and claimed there was a suspicious $25,000 withdrawal attempt by a company called “M&T something.”

He then asked if we had received any suspicious emails recently, suggesting that’s how our banking information had been stolen. The only email mentioned was an unrelated ad that was deleted. The caller tried to “verify” our identity by sending text messages to personal phones with a link to click. One phone didn’t display the link correctly, and the other received a clickable link—but we did not click on it.

The text came from the same number as the caller ID (812-717-1006), which is suspicious because legitimate verification texts typically come from 5-digit short codes, not full 10-digit numbers.

After looking up the number (which had no search results at the time), we confirmed with the real TD Bank via their fraud department that this was indeed a scam. No such withdrawal existed, and our account was secure. TD Bank confirmed they’ve been getting more reports of these types of phishing attempts.

Please do not give any information to this caller. Hang up and call your bank using a verified number directly from their website or your card.
