- DianaPete, let us know how you're doing with the staying on the line thing. They're also calling me uninvited and I'm on the no call list as well. However, I called the BBB to find out that when you submit a BBB report, this disreputable company receives all of the information you place on the BBB's online form, including your full name and address. I'm unwilling to give them all that, since they can't be trusted with my phone number.

- frog888 calls in a day on my cell phone. No ID, no answer

- JenI've been getting multiple calls per day from this number. Today alone they've called 17 times already! They never leave a message. I never answer calls with Caller ID I don't recognize, and I've blocked this number so they get disconnected after one ring. But the constant calls have gotten so irritating I've turned off my ringer. I definitely consider this harassment at this point.

- AnonymousHave called me 5 times already - never leave a message. I'm on DNC list; I work at home and this is very annoying. I filed a DNC complaint.
- robbybalt| 1 replyA few points to consider, then the solution to your problems with calls from this number.
1. FCC Do-Not-Call registry does not apply to all entities. For example, political and non-profit organizations are exempt. See the DNC FAQs on the FCC site for details
2. Most exempt organizations have an internal DNC list.
3. The BBB only has power over BBB accredited businesses. And even on those, they only have limited power. Some non-accredited businesses will respond to complaints on the BBB site if they're respectable and do their due dilligence.
Solution for this number: Answer the call or call the number back and listen to their message. It has specific instructions on how to add your number to their internal DNC list. Nuff said.- Caller: Harris Direct

- KateThis number calls me several times I day.
- AnonymousHave gotten dozens of calls over multiple weeks. Finally picked up the phone. No one was on the other end. I said "please take my # off your list." We'll see if they do...

- AnonymousRobbybait, thanks for offering suggestions but:
1) BBB doesn't have any "power" at all. They are a mediation service. If the business cares about whether they have a good rating with BBB (e.g., A+ vs. F), then they will cooperate with the BBB to resolve complaints. This is true whether the business is accredited or not. The "accreditation" simply means that the business has agreed to meet BBB standards, so it implies that they care about the rating and will cooperate.
2) It is not clear in the case of Harris Direct that they qualify as a not-for-profit fundraiser.
3) Several of us have done exactly what you suggested but either no one is on the other end, or he/she is there but doesn't speak, and any request made to remove your number is ignored. I have picked up three calls in the past three days that fall into this category, and obviously the calls will continue regardless. Contacting the business may be viewed by it as your agreeing to be a "customer" which they deem gives them the right to contact you again under DNC rules. So neither is a solution for companies like this who just continue to annoy people.- Caller: Harris Direct
- AnonymousHey folks, it appears to me from the Q&As on the FTC site that this company is NOT exempt, as a third party fundraiser:
http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/alerts/alt107.shtm
"29.
Are calls from political organizations or calls soliciting for charities covered?
Political solicitations are not covered by the TSR at all, since they are not included in its definition of “telemarketing.” Charities are not covered by the requirements of the national registry. However, if a third-party telemarketer is calling on behalf of a charity, a consumer may ask not to receive any more calls from, or on behalf of, that specific charity. If a third-party telemarketer calls again on behalf of that charity, the telemarketer may be subject to a fine of up to $16,000 ."
Also, the company's email address on their own website is invalid: info@harris-direct.org
If you want to contact them, unfortunately, you have to submit the email through their website's Contact page.- Caller: harris direct

- GinnyI too have been getting these calls from Harris Direct. They say if you don't want the call to leave your phone area code and phone number, so I did, and am still getting the calls. I am on the DNC list. A lot of good that is doing, I have been getting these calls nonstop every day for the last two weeks.

- Margie replies to mjCalling the 818-222-3470 number seemed to work. At least I reached a person who promised to remove me from their list. If this is truly a Doctors Without Borders connection, that organization has seen its last donation from me. What a disappointing link to what I have always believed to be a great organization.
- rwgate| 1 replyHarris Direct calls people according to donations they have made in the past. If you donated to Doctors without Borders, that's who you'll get a request from. If you donated to the Democratic National Committee, it will be from them. Political solicitations are not required to honor the Do Not Call list.
Expect a lot of this just prior to an election. Actually, it's a smart thing for someone like DWB or DNC to do, as you've already indicated with your donations that you support their cause. It is annoying, however, that it is so difficult to get off their list.- Caller: Harris Direct
