    I note that most people hang up or don't answer. Convenient if you are the telemarketer, allows more time to call some one else who might be willing to buy.  Why waste time on a "no sale".
    If half the people they called kept them on the line as long as possible  it would reduce the call volume and likely reduce their sales. The reduction might even be enough to make it unprofitable.
