- Mary| 2 repliesGot the same message from 1-844-446-4490 as everyone above, regarding expired Microsoft license. I called the 1-855-601-0009 and a man who sounded as if he were from India answered the phone. He said my license had expired and that it would cost $200 for him to renew it over the phone. When I asked him how he got my name and number he hung up on me.

- Jake replies to Mary| 1 replyThere is no such thing as a Microsoft Licence, so obviously it doesn't need to be renewed!. Another trick the scammers will try is to say they can give you your computer's unique Serial Number to prove that they know it's you. What they give you is the Windows Serial Number which is the same on all computers, worldwide, which use Windows. In addition Microsoft and its partners NEVER 'phone about your computer and, according to their website, anyone who does is a scammer.

- You're an idiot replies to JakeYes, there is a license, you're right, there isn't a "licence", as you wrote. The number is not the same on all computers. You shouldn't give advice, try going back to school.
- Not so dumbLike others here, I got a message to call their number as they wanted to give me a refund for my computer. I decided to play along. By the way, he knew my name and address. Well, I was supposed to go to the nearest drugstore and get a money order for $250. Then I was to call them back and they would send me a check for $500 as the computer refund and the re-reimbursement for what I was supposed to send them! Now, from the get-go I knew this was a scam as the person calling had a very thick foreign accent, even though he said he was in Brooklyn, NY. I asked the name of his company and he said 'Windows Support'. I told him he was a criminal and I would report him to the authorities. He hung up on me. About 10 minutes later, the same call came again. No one there. Then, about 2 minutes after that, another call. This time his name was 'James Johnson' in California. He wanted me to renew my license and it would cost $200. I've had computers at home for 20 years and have never heard of such a thing. He told me to hold down the windows and 'r' key for instructions. I pretended I was doing that but said I saw nothing on my screen. Then I reminded him the initial call said I was to get a refund for my computer. He said, something like 'oh, well ....' So, back to the top for rest of story. I told him his accent was too difficult to understand and asked him when did he immigrate to the US. He said in 2001. So, I asked him where he immigrated FROM...He said Los Angeles. Really? I would have loved continuing to ask him unrelated questions to see what kind of answers he could come up with, but when I started laughing, he too hung up on me.
Bottom line folks. These people are just criminals!! Maybe i should report them to the FBI? Or maybe my local news organization?- Caller: microsoft support
