I received a text on my personal cellphone from tel
1 (844) 773-5199 with the following message: Congratulations, your Bank of America credit request was approved.  Welcome package & card will arrive within 14 days.  I believe this is a scam and person/s involved are phishing for my information.  To all those that receive a text message from the number I just mentioned be very careful and do not text a response back.

No call received. I received a similar email and text saying Congratulations your Bank of America Credit Card has been approved and should be received in 7-14 days as well as an email asking to verify my email address. I did not apply for a Bank of America Credit Card nor do I want one. I received an alert via ID shield that Equifax had looked at my credit at the banks request. I replied HELP and was deferred to the above number. I did not call it but I will be visiting a local BOA tomorrow to follow-up on this.

How did this go?

All you need to know is this is a scam. Probably doing some phishing and looking for info that will let them get at your financial data/banking info to do a bit of theft. I am guessing 1000's of these emails go out every day, if not every hour.

Doesn't help with the hard inquiry on the credit report though. How does that happen?

Well, someone used your information to apply for a credit card. I don't see how you couldn't figure that out. Now if you contact whatever bank they applied to and tell them that it wasn't you they can remove that inquiry as well as cancelling the application/card.

Thanks bud. BoA has no record of it. Already called Experian to file a dispute.

Had this happen today. Called B of A directly and they said someone opened a card in my name and requested it be sent to a different address. Credit bureaus alerted and police report filed.

I just got this today but the number was 20504. The number you posted was in response to replying Help. Says it's card services underwriting. I didn't call. I'm too chicken. But now I'm nervous but nothing is showing up on my credit reports.

that's what I did. I called the number and cancelled the card.

I received this same message and it was fraud. Be sure you call the real bank phone number and not something fake
