- Leo| 1 replyThey called and provided my highschooler's name and offered some SAT / SET training materials at a discounted price. As soon as I asked for their phone number so we could call them back, the caller said "bye" and hung up. It sure looks like a phishing call.
- Caller: UNAVAILABLE
- LP replies to LeoI just got a phone call from them too - same deal - knew my kid's first name and wanted to know if she was planning to take the SAT and attend a 4 year college. When I asked how they got my number they said that she must have filled something out online - I don't think so. The guy then said bye and hung up. The same company called yesterday and when my son asked who was calling they hung up.
- samyup same thing just happened. Its deff a scam. when i answered the phone it sounded all crackly and when they asked if my parents were home and i said no, the guy hung up immediately. I wish there was some way to report them so they can stop calling!
- kleavittthis number calls daily - when we answer there's a dial tone - make them go away :(
- Smartask| 1 replyThey called in the morning and i didnt answer. googled the # and found this site and see its a scam. They call again in the afternoon and i am ready for them and answer it with the intent to do some fishing. A woman named Franchesca ask for me by last name only and tells me how they are conducting a followup for the interest we showed in thier product from University prep center. (we never showed any interest but i played along and thanked them for calling.) They ask me about my daughter by first name and ask if she plans on attending college. I say yes and they start with the sales pitch . I give them the occasional Oh Really, wow thats great. at the end of the sales pitch they tell me I can have the whole package with money back guarantee for $175.00 I tell her I am really interested and I would like to get more info and asked if they had a website which she replied www*universityprepcenter*com and immediately followed up wuth "dont buy it from the website because it is $350 on line and they are doing a phone special for $175." she asked if she could call back in a week or a month so I can review the product. I told her a week would be fine and thanked her for all the info and ended the call. went right to the website and the sales pitch was spot on as whats claimed on the site. The phone # was different though. an 866 # not 855. i plan on calling later from a payphone (just in case) to see if they are conducting phone solicitations. Somehow i think the answer will be no. Looks like someone selling bootlegs of a legit product. If and when they call back i will tell them I want it and will ask for an address to mail a check to. we will see what happens. How do they get all our personal family info??

- RPThese yahoos have been doing the same thing for some time now. Since the Caller ID doesn't identify who it is I just let it go. Probably have all the numbers on an auto dialer and when you pick up it transfers to a live person with all the pertinent data. Definitely is a scam based on the posts I've read here and on some other sites. Unfortunately the only real solution to these dirtbags would be something that can't be posted. Let's just say I wouldn't be shedding any tears if there were a few less of these miscreants taking up oxygen and resources.
- Ms.MoThanks for the heads up. when I dial the number its a recording but they leave no name for their company and the message box is full. I thought it was from a bill collector. My child did take a SAT prep class but I purchased it from a legitimate company who conducted the classes at her school.

- SeegI just received a call from them, and i have no kids. since i didn't recognize the number, i did not answer. standard practice around my house.
- LizI have two children in high school and when they took the PSAT's this year, they checked off the box stating they were interested in college information and would like to be contacted. What a mistake! Of course, they (nor I) didn't realize at the time it would spawn a rash of telemarketing phone calls! It's absolutely ridiculous. They call at all hours of the day!! When you answer, they ask for the parents of or they simply hang up on you. When you don't answer, they don't even bother leaving a message. That is indicative of a company that is NOT legit! I, too, have been registered on the National Do Not Call Registry at www.donotcall.gov. Today, I went on the site to file a complaint. It was simple. Make sure you check off Yes when asked if whether or not you told these people to stop calling you. I have tried. I highly suggest everybody who receives these calls do the same. Go to the website and click on "File a Complaint" on the left side of the site.

- GayleI got a call today from someone asking for an individual who is NOT my child, but was a resident at this property over 11 years ago (prior to us purchasing the home). We have had our number for over 15 years so the individual linked to the address was never linked to the number. When I asked "who" (because he does not live here), the guys stated "Oh I am not going to play this game" and hung up. I then reported the number to the Do Not Call Registry.

- jordani get a call from these people once a day, everyday. its been going on for 3 months now. i never answer, simply because i don't know who it is. i decided to google it today and read all the above posts. now that i know its a scam maybe ill answer and give them a piece of my mind. they just do not give up.
- SteveThey've been calling me twice a day for over a month...never have answered, but it makes sense that it's ACT/SAT related. They never leave a voice mail.

- Kalamazoo Katie| 1 replyLike others here, I received numerous call from this number. Finally, one day I picked up the phone to satisfy my curiousity, and also found a lady named Franchesca callling me from the UNIVERSITY PREP CENTER. She told me that my daughter had checked off an interest in receiving preperation material for the college entry exams, and asked me if she was serious about going to a four-year university.
Fortunately, my daughter happened to be home at the time & I asked her if she had checked anything up at school for this. And, lo and behold, she did - when her and her friends signed up to take the PSAT test in their sophomore year. So, that let me know immediately that Franchesca was legitimate, and not part of a phishing scam. Knowing my daughter wants to get into Michigan State, I decided to give Franchesca a moment of my time.
She told that the UNIVERSITY PREP CENTER wanted to set my daughter up with a 30 day trial, so she could take practice SAT & ACT tests at home, and help her see what areas she was weak in. Franchesca also told me that they would guarantee a 5 point increase on the ACT's everytime my daughter took it, or a 300 point increase on the SAT's. That sounded pretty impressive, but I then too started to think "scam".
Well, I decided to do my homework and asked Franchesca if she could call me back in a few days. To my pleasant surprise, I found out that the UNIVERSITY PREP CENTER is a legitimate company, and has been providing this college entry exam preparation program for the last 15 years. I also found out that they have the highest score increase guarantees available from any program (I checked out Kaplan, Princeton Review & Sylvian Learing Centers, who only guarantee a 200 point increase on the SAT's & 4 points on the ACT's]). When Franchesca called back, I told her I'd be willing to sign my daughter up for the trial period.
So, long story short, I think that the annoyance expressed by others above who don't have any college bound high school kids is understandable (I even asked Franchesca why no message is left when their calls are not answered, and she apologeticaly explained that there are so many students for them to call, that they use automated dialing instead of finger dialing). And I, like many here, am suspicious of calls coming from an "800" number, and normaly try to ignore them.
But, this time I'm happy that I didn't - and my daughter actually likes it ! ! !- Caller: University Prep Center
- BeachbumJust got call from this #. Didn't asnwer as caller ID showed it to be "unavailable". Literally just got done a few minutes ago registering a complaint with National Do Not Call Registry (of which my # is registered with) for repeated calls from 626-565-5555 that called not even an hour before this # 855-285-5718. Same deal... they are trying to sell SAT prep materials. I have not answered calls from either #, only researched online complaints from others. I had such a call months ago that I answered and listened to their sales pitch. I do have a daughter who is a high school junior, but she has no recollection of having signed up requesting to receive any such information - even when registering for the PSAT (last year and this year)! I told the person then that I was not interested and to take me off their calling list. I am now registering a complaint on this # also, and will be making an inquiry with the Collegeboard/National Merit Scholarship Corporation (group that administers the PSAT) officials as to whom student's personal information is shared with!!!

- Tracey replies to Kalamazoo KatieWow, Franchesca! That's quite the fictitious tale!
- ConcernedReceived calls from 855-285-5718 , caller has daughter info from SAT testing. First call's asked for my daughters "Mommy" and hung up after we asked who was calling. On the last call they offered unwanted courses to prep for college, when I asked to be taken off calling list I was called "[***]". I am concerned for child information security & safety.. This WACKO needs to be stopped.
