Area code 855 was put into service.

With toll free numbers the charges are paid for by the party who is called instead of the caller. Although area code 855 is not assigned to a geographical area, calls to any toll free number may be restricted by the customer. Other toll free area codes are 800, 866, 877, and 888."

(Above is a cut-and-paste from that webpage.)  Yeah, this doesn't read right.  The last sentence, where it refers to the 800 numbers, confirms what they mean, as no caller gets charged when you call a 1-800 number.

My dad, rest his soul, used to have a toll-free number we kids could call if we ever got into trouble.  And he, as the "party who is called", paid for the call.

And you are also right with your final comment, plus in 2012, now Blacks have to vote for a White presidential candidate to prove they are not racist.

The college republicans are a group of democrates trying to make the republicans look bad.  Democrates have no record to run on so all they can do is degrade and tear down the republicans.  It won't work.  Obama will be out of here come next November.  Democrates will lie about everyone and everything because they know that Obama has no record to run on.

Their message give the number 1-800-618-5142 to call to be placed on the Do Not Call List.  This number explains who they are and at the end of their recorded message they give options.  Option #3 is to be removed from their calling list.

Caller ID identifies as "800 Service{" and I get SEVERAL calls a day, sometimes with the number
calling me varying.  I have reported them before, am on the DO NOT CALL LIST, and do not understand why they cannot be blocked.

We get calls from this number every day. We never answer, and it rings just three times. Our answering machine picks up after six rings.

Enough problems with unwanted calls without making stuff up!!  From wikipedia:  "Toll Free has become so popular that the 800 area code ran out of available numbers, so additional area codes (currently, 855, 866, 877, 888) were added."

Good Grief -this is just a political call ~~ (CRNC) -ask to be removed from their list!!

I just got the same message again yesterday. They're at it again.13 more months of this abuse.

Are some of the people here actually thinking that if you call this number back that they would be charged for it??  How strange!!  And to Bette - 29 Sep 2011.…  this is not a number for those “scary Democrats!”   If you call 855 830-1179 (number for political calls I imagine) you will indeed see it is the CRNC!!!  They will even give you a little history of the Committee ~~ 600 Pennsylvania Ave. SE, Suite 215, Washington DC 20003.

This number calls me several times a week/day and I never answer.  They never leave a message and it is so annoying.  I have to get up to answer the phone and never answer toll or unknown numbers.  I recently reupped my DO NOT CALL and they tell me that after 31 days and I still get these calls, I can go online to "donotcall.gov" and complain.  I am in that waiting period and cannot wait to see what happens when I complain.  Probably nothing.
