On the official Dell Website this number is listed as the verification number. I had ordered a laptop the night before and signed up for dell credit. They called me the following morning asking for my info and gave this number (866) 228 9620. I got kind of worried that they asked for the info dealing with the order, but it makes sense. The lady was foreign and her English was a little hard to understand, but if I get screwed at least it's a number on dell's website and I know where to go for a suit. I hope this particular review makes it easier for someone who also actually bought something by applying for dell financing. It was just a pc confirmation and they lifted the "temporary hold" on my account. I'll maybe follow up.

I got a call from someone saying they were from Dell's order confirmation dept. After investigating it and calling my CC company it turned out to be legit. Someone had hacked my CC and had placed an unauthorized order that was being shipped an address different from my billing address.
Dell does call to confirm orders, especially when they suspect something is up. And I'm glad they did this time.
