Called BoFa. This is a legit number. If you worry, you can call BoFa financial department on their official number and ask them to transfer you to the automated W9 filling service.

I received the similar letter, just called 800.432.1000. They told me that this phone number belongs to BoFA, and they request W-9 form.

I received a similar letter.  I visited my local branch.  They confirmed that it was a fraud,
and forwarded the letter to BOA's fraud department.

I work for bofa, and although the phone number is very odd, on the letter if it requests w-9 information and has a correspondence address in Dallas, Texas to send the paperwork back too, then it is valid. I had a client that was concerned with this as well, and although I'm not a fan of the phone number, the request for the w-9 info was valid since I called our tax operations team. as  long as the correspondence address is a PO box in Dallas, Texas. And to correct previous people that have commented, bofa DOES send out letters. For compliance , and for business accounts.

I got the same letter. It has my real account number on it. If its a scam how do they have this. The envelope they tell you to return the form to if you don't want to do it over the phone is a real bank of America address. And if you call bank of America from the number on the back of your card and tell them you need to fill out a W9 they connect you to this number.
If its a scam BOA is in on it.
But I do agree you should never get a call from this number
