Got a text saying "This is an important message from Wakefield & Assoc a debt collection agency. Contact 866-470-0171. To op-out reply END." Was really suspicious of it due to the number not matching on the website called the Number and all I got was "you are hitting the error prompt"

Got a text message from 9319102875 stating "This is an important message from Wakefield & Assoc a debt collection agency. Contact 866-470-0171. To op-out reply END."  I have no idea from who this could be, I'm not behind on anything. I actually called and talked to an agent and someone gave them my number.

That is a phony debt collector. A text or a call is NOT legal notice of a debt. If there was a real debt, you would to be given the option to "opt out."  No good can come from calling crooks, you can expect more calls, I reckon.

I received, "This important message is from Wakefield & Assoc a debt collection agency. Call 866-470-0171. Reply END to opt-out."
I'm not behind on ANYTHING. Not even going to call. If it was a real debt collection situation, they need to call me & speak to me or leave me a voice mail.

Wakefield is a "real debt collection" agency, albeit one that doesn't always follow the letter of the law.  You can thank the CFPB for those text messages that are now allowed thanks to the traitor that used to run the Agency under the direction of the former traitor in chief.

I got the same message as the above.  I'm not behind on anything either and the phone number they called from did not match the number they gave to call either.  Absolutely not calling them back.

Same text as everyone else but the last part said To stop reply STOP. Claims to be Wakefield ad Assoc a debt collection agency. Looked them up and this number is not listed as a contact for them.

That pretty much doesn't make any sense.  Plus blocking them only means that they will use a different number.

This appears to be a scammer pretending to be with Wakefield and associates. I got the same text as those above. If you ask for more info, they send you to a form that has you put in your social security, birthday, all of your information. The number they give you to call is not listed on Wakefield’s legit website. Do not give these people anything. Block and delete, it is a (pretty well done) scam.

I got an automated call saying an order for over 1K was placed on my account and to call 866.701.0171 if I did not place this order.  Call came in as "Restricted - Unknown"

Same as the above.  I haven't received notice of any debt owed that isn't up to date.  If it is legitimate I wonder why a text is the first method of contact?  Seems very odd.

You can thank the previous administration and the criminal they installed as director of the CFPB for allowing debt collectors to send out text messages and emails instead of phone calls and letters. Everything else you need to know has been posted.

Got this suspicious test and glad I was able to verify this was a scam. The phone number given was not what was listed on the website.
