this is saying its a law firm for criminal action,....this a scam or have I been victim of identity theft?

Hey Peter same here. Except a "agent" called me from an unknown number and told me to contact (866) 512-8542. I said forget that..has to be a scam. Called on a relative phone number and not mine. Don't have a clue what "bank" the "agent" is referring to.

Got a call from Agent Robert Parson from County Services, put me on hold to connect to this phone number, couldn't, then gave number, talked to Investigator James McLane, had my prior bank info & daughters name, saying I had taken out a On line loan March of 2013 on a account I had closed in 2010, told me I'm looking at 3 to 5 years in prison, says I bounced checks over state lines, talked with my bank as he also told me that my bank had sent an Affivadift to them, NO they hadn't, I asked for that along with the address/fax number, wouldn't give to me, my bank found out that this is a new business started 06/24/2016.  SCAM.

I got the same call from a lawyer first and then and agent . I guess I'll see if they show up at my house.

Called by an individual claiming to be an attorney for a firm named Nowak, Stern & Kosinski. He said his name is Chris Jacobs. He said he was filling a criminal complaint and a request for judgment. Said he could be contacted at 866-512-8542. My name was never used during this call, or that of any individual other than that of the claimed caller, Chris Jacobs.

The only result I could find for Nowak, Stern & Kosinski is an LLC in Amherst, NY. Amherst is a suburb of Buffalo. Records show that this firm was created on June 24, 2016. There is no listed local telephone number for this business.

Located a partial record of a DBA stating the three surnames of the firm, those three individuals were listed as Russell Nowak, Ron Stern and Lori Kosinski. They may or may not be involved in this matter. The listed agent for NSK is Sean Gerasimowicz, 2005 Niagara Falls Blvd. Suite 4, Amherst, NY 14228.

A search for Chris Jacobs found an individual in the Buffalo area of that name. But he is not an attorney for Nowak, Stern & Kosinski, he is the County Clerk of Erie County, the county in which Nowak, Stern & Kosinski is located. He was once New York State Secretary of State.

My opinion is that this is a scam being operated by a criminal, or criminals, using threats to fraudulently attempt to obtain personal information that will be used for fraudulent purposes. AKA, Phishing

They are going around pretending to be members of local government entities.  They are also threatening criminal process against those who may owe civil debts.

This is a clear violation of the FTC rules for the proper collection of debts.

If they continue to bother you,  and you know you do not owe any money, tell them that you know this is  a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion.  Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the  file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved.   Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them at whatever address the jack***es are working out of now.

You'll probably have to yell at them and talk over them.
You have to get tuff with these people because,  being akin to thugs, brute force is (metaphorically speaking),  the only thing they understand.

Got the same call. They almost got me. They called all my family member stating that if i don't pay them the US marshall is going to pick me up on check fraud charges. At first this fella name James McClain said that he was a criminal lawyer, when i stop taking his calls he started leaving very threatening VM on my phone. This is a big Scam. When i said let me get my lawyer on the line he said that he has to go because he doesn't have time for this. BOL. I reported them to the NY attorney general office and even the one in Florida where i live.

Yes this happened to me also. Attornery firm claiming that my son would go to jail if a bill was not taken care of. I was taken for one payment. Thanks for having this on the internet. I reported to my bank.
