I get a call from these people at least once a week.  They are calling the house phone which doesn't even belong to me and I NEVER give out as my number, EVER !! What the hell do they want ?? I don't have ANY past bills that haven't been paid and all credit cards and car payments are up to date and never been late !!
Only thing I can think of, is that they are trying to scam money from me but I can't get anyone to answer when I call it back.
Oh well ... Screw 'em !! Send me a letter in the mail or leave me the hell alone... You aint gettin' [***] out of me !!

COLLECTION AGENCIES

Collection agencies do not fall under the National Do Not Call Registry's restrictions.  Collection Agencies are governed by the FDCPA (Fair Debt Collection Practice Act); therefore, to cease calls, you will need to do the following:

(1) Send a letter to the agency via USPS Certified Mail with Return Receipt to cease calling you.  NOTE: A Cease and Desist is different than this request and may bring on additional and immediate unwanted actions.  Once the agency receives this, they are required by FDCPA to stop calling you, EXCEPT for the following:

§ 805. Communication in connection with debt collection
(c) CEASING COMMUNICATION. If a consumer notifies a debt collector in writing that the consumer refuses to pay a debt or that the consumer wishes the debt collector to cease further communication with the consumer, the debt collector shall not communicate further with the consumer with respect to such debt, except—
  (1) to advise the consumer that the debt collector’s further efforts are being terminated;
  (2) to notify the consumer that the debt collector or creditor may invoke specified remedies which are ordinarily invoked by such debt collector or creditor; or
  (3) where applicable, to notify the consumer that the debt collector or creditor intends to invoke a specified remedy.  If such notice from the consumer is made by mail, notification shall be complete upon receipt.

By all means, please share this information!  They (Collection Agencies) rely on consumers not being knowledgeable and enforcing their rights, so don't fall prey!  And I highly recommend taking Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University (http://www.daveramsey.com/fpu/home/) if there is one near you; very educational and enlightening!

they keep calling me and i dont know why

I have some information for anyone dealing with this issue.  For two years now I have been recieving calls from a company called Enhanced Recovery Corporation of Jacksonville FL and they are asking for a person named Yosef (cant pronounce or even spell last name).  I am a 5th generation Texan with an accent to match, clealy not arabic,  I beleive Enhanced Recovery maybe related to Enterprise Recovery for the following reasons.  Last night I received a call from a number with area code 817, which is in my area.  The number showed up  as 817-349-2076 (a leased "phantom" number to hide thier own number, keep reading.  After two years I decided to play their game and said yes this is Yosef,  at which point she devulged date of birth, ss number and name of original debtorr which was ITT Tecchnical Institute and  she began to offrer a "repayment" plan at which point I started laughing and said, lady, does my accent sound like someone named Yosef?  She got really mad and immediatley hung up.

 

Here's the good part.  I called that 817 number back and asked for the company name, and it was Enterprise Recovery Systems.  Then I logged on my Verizon account which keeps a log of all incoming and outgoing calls.  The log showed that when I dialed the 817 number it was re-routed to 904-891-9704 in Jacksonville FL.  (what a coincidnce! the same area code and prefix as Enhanced Recovery)  When you dial the 904 number you get a message which says it does not accept incoming calls and disconnects.  Four minutes later I get a call, id showed the same 817 number, asking for Yosef.  I asked where they were calling from and they said Chicago.  I explained the whole story to no avail.  Today Enterprise Recovry called again, the caller id showed  "restricted" and I got a more friendly agent who said he was in Oakbrook IL.  I told him I had worked for a company whose corporate office is in Oakbrook and now the agent's debt collector mask comes off and we have a freindly discussion.  Here's the kicker, at the end of the call he told me that as soon as I started talking he knew he had the wrong person. So, let's see if they really delete my number.

 

I say if you cant beat 'em, join 'em and have some fun with it, I certainly did.  And PLEASE, no replies about FCC, FTC, call blocking, Attorney Generals, blah blah blah.  It's been going on for two years!  I have a tremendous amount of tenacity and already know all of that and when I find Yosef myself I will be beating the living snot out him for using my number, well, actually for thinking he deserves a free education at my expense.
