This is a scam.  I have never had a citibank acct.  After being asked for acct. #, ssn, and name and then acct # again  I informed the asian woman on the phone that I have never held an account and that this sounded like a scam and I would be calling the FBI to report it, was then told oh we must have the wrong number.

We had a robo call every day for several weeks from number 877-242-7372 claiming to be from Citi with a different reference # given every time. I did a search online and found several references to the number being associated with a scam.
Today we received a call from a different number, 866-609-8298. This call was from an actual person saying they were calling about a credit card from Cit, and it was not a sales call. I Googled the latest number and found this site. Based on other comments about Childrens Place, I asked my wife to check her Childrens Place cc. She said she had not received a bill for some time. Upon checking online, she discovered it was actually past due. Apparently the Childrens Place card is issued by Citi. She paid the bill on line. Hopefully the calls will stop now. The Citi call appears to be legitimate.

This is a scam - they left a voicemail on my business line and I looked through my credit cards - none of them is done by Citibank. I called the number out of curiosity and she wanted my account number, I refused.  She asked for the phone number they had left the message at and I gave her that.  Then she wanted my name, etc and I told her that she had to tell me more about the account.  She said that Citibank also does some gas cards.  She wanted more information from me again "to check before she told me anything else" - but I expect that they will tell you anything as long as they can convince you to make a payment on a card they don't control for you.  They get as much info as they can and based on other responses here they then list all kinds of accounts it could be and if they get one you have, they claim that some amount is owed and try to get not only the account number you supposedly owe on, but also bank or credit card information to "make a payment on the past due account".  So these folks are phishing for information big time.  If you think they aren't going to use or sell every scrap of information they can collect on you, you're mistaken.

This scammer has dug up a data loss by Childrens Place.  If you haven't had a bill in a long time, it is because your account balance is zero.  They are telling you that there is a short-fall just to get your payment information.  They are going to sell your payment information to someone else, but your non-existent debt to Childrens Place won't be a problem because there wasn't a balance due. Citibank may fund Childrens' Place Cards, but this number is NOT Citibank. Have your means-of-payment account number changed immediately.

Wow, some of these comments lol. First off the call IS legit! I returned the call to the number left on the voice mail and they were calling about a Wawa card past due. Wawa, Exxon, Shell....whomever doesn't handle collections, this other company Citi does (not to be confused with Citi Bank). They're calling you because you haven't made a payment!!!! maybe to a card you have forgotten about!!!!!

Received a call today from Citi. After checking online I was inclined to believe it was a scam. However, one post on here mentioned Goodyear. I do have a Goodyear credit card which I had used for the first time in years a little over a month ago. I logged in and found they had my old contact information and there had been a payment due last week. I can't confirm the call was legitimate or a coincidence but Citibank does administer several retail credit cards and I believe the call was genuine in my case.
