got a email saying my confirming a new email address, called Equifax @800-829-4577 (number off their web site)and they said my address has not been changed. When I called the 866-640-2273 they asked for my SS# which I didn't give I take this number to be a scam

This number is from Equifax. They are issuing credit reports without authorization and trying to charge you for it and when you call this number, you get all kinds of false information and outright lies. The people on the line try to pressure you and get you to sign up for various services or your credit will be ruined and other garbage information. Be careful of this site and this phone number. They will scam you

I called this number and they asked me for my credit card information and credit limit....beware

They asked me for my credit card number to charge me 14.95 to get my score. I didn't give it to them. I already gave too much info  to them . I felt uncomfortable with them after she asked for my credit card info. Is this a scam or equifax ?

I call this number to order my credit report, when I looked at the information something did not seem right.  they had my information but all of was not showing correctly.  The representative on the phone was telling lies that I knew was incorrect  So I my antenna went up.   They asked me for my credit card information.  I did not give it to them.   I felt uncomfortable after this call. I put fraud alert on all my bureau reports immediately.  I did not believe it was truly an Equifax business number.

I received a email confirming a new email address change from Member.Benefits@equifax.com -  called 1-866-640-2273, the number on the email & Equifax web site. They asked for my SSN# which I did not give out. Said they couldn't look up my account any other way. BE WARY!

Received an email telling me that my email address has been changed. If this is not so, I should call the number in question.

I got the same scam

This IS the information number.  They need social security to identify you.

Did you find any fraud later down the line from the info you gave them?

There is a charge pending on my bank statement using my debit card for $120.  I never used my debit card, and when I called the number, an equifax rep answered in India saying they never charged my account.  Somebody did, and I do no know who unless he was lying.

This number IS Equifax.  Look at the fourth bullet listed at https://www.equifax.com/personal/help/help-contact-equifax/
It says, "Do you need to cancel your existing Equifax product? Please call us at (866) 640-2273 M-F 9am-9pm EST, Sat-Sun 9am-6pm EST."

You have not read and considered prior posts going back years.
IF is is an Equifax number, scammers are spoofing it.
And besides, why would Equifax call anyone? Esp to cancel the service? You can barely pay Equifax to talk to you on the phone, much less call you.
You are either confused and giving bad advice or you are shill.
