Received email with this phone number in it, claiming to be from the Paypal unclaimed funds dept. My account originally was listed under my gmail address and was switched over to Verizon, the funds (if there were any, which I doubt) should have been sent to the new account. These people are claiming that there are still funds in the closed account.

I think this is a scam. They're trying to contact people on their most active email address, asking them to call back or send an email to retrieve their unclaimed funds. If there is a virus in the email, this will enable them to steal their identity, copy their sim card or scam their contact list.

If you receive a call from these people, do not answer, if you get an email, forward it to Paypal to have it verified. Their email address is available on Google.

Did some further searching on the Internet and found the Paypal email address- spoof@paypal.com . Forwarded the email and received a reply-this was indeed a phishing attempt and they are investigating it.
Paypal will not email you out of the blue, but only if you email them first, so regard any unexpected emails supposedly from them as suspicious and forward them to the address above.

Got a e-mail with this phone number. Same as been talk about a Paypal account. If no claim until June the fund will be sent to government. And show me the account ID and have a link to log in。 If forgot password can get a new one just answer some questions。 and give him an account the money will direct sent in。

Received email from PayPal said I have unclaimed money due me. After reading these statements I think it is scam.

4/23/2026  It's a complete scam, but you will be fooled because it 100% looks like it came from PayPal.  You call the phone number and you will only be asked questions by an AI chat agent.  You will never be connected to a live person who can explain the details about the alleged unclaimed property.  They asked for the last 4 digits of my SSN, and that is information that they don't need for any reason.  If you send an email message to the email address they show, you will never receive a reply.  Look at your PayPal statement from the official website and that will tell you if you have any balance owed to you.
