On Sunday, 2:20 PM PST, a woman called my on my cell phone. Claimed to be from the Key Bank Fraud department. She asked if was so-and-so (first name, klast name). When I said that I was, shw ran off a list of charges to a Key Bank credit card in my name.  I denied having made any of the charges in the list.  She said that she would put a temporary hold on the card, and asked me to visit a local Key Bank branch the following day (Monday) to have them print a list of the charges.
When I visited the local Key Bank branch today ()Monday), I gave the manager my SSN and he looked up the account using that -- and found that there was no credit card assigned with my SSN.

Is this really Key Bank? I went on-line, found a customer service number to call, but there was no way through the phone tree to find an actual fraud department number.  How can I know iwhether this number (866-821-9096) is for the Key Bank fraud department?

It is a legit keybank Fraudulent number to verify activity on your acct. I just had the same number call me. They wanted information from me so I hung up and called the keybank number and verified with them and they said it is a legit phone number for the fraud dept of keybank.

I had the same call but for fraudulent activity on my debit card. They claimed to be Keybank Card Services. This 9096 number seemed suspicious so I called the number on my card. The representative said that the number is not associated with Keybank.

Same phone number called here, also claiming to be from Key Bank Fraud Department. Was on phone with Key Bank for nearly an hour... long story short, as I suspected, the 866 number is not Key Bank, nor connected to it., even though the Key representative said it likely was legit. The scammers already have your info, obtained via data breaches. When their attempts to use the card gets blocked, they contact you claiming to be the fraud department, trying to use you to get the card block removed (you contact Key, verify it was fraudulent charges, but need the card, so block gets lifted, or worst case, it does not, and the scammer strikes that number from their usable database).

Call left on my answering machine to call the fraud dept. at Key Bank (866-821-9096).  When I called I gave them the reference number that was left on the answering machine.  The   rep then asked for my credit card number, last 4 digits of my S.S. number... They wanted to know if I had made purchases at 3 locations on different dates.  I confirmed the purchases.  I then called  Key Bank customer service to verify that the 866 number was legit.  She put me on hold for a few seconds to call the number and then told me it was legit.

It is key bank, I know because I work there. It’s not a public number on the website nor is it easily listed. Most of the time the reps are lazy and find it easier to say it’s fake. This number connects you to customer service. If you ever feel weary call the number on the back of the card. Unfortunately fraudsters have begun spoofing phone numbers. The card fraud people are not the same as fraud hotline (they don’t do card fraud) or disputes(they deal with fraud and non-fraud disputes), they are different departments. If you don’t believe me call and ask.

Called keybank and they confirm it is a keybank number

I received a call saying they wanted to check into a possible fraudulent charge. I called the number on my card and they confirmed that the call was from a real KeyBank fraud department umber. The representative I directly called was able to help me with the issue.

This number is indeed KeyBank Fraud alert. I was contacted by a text from this number In March when I checked into a hotel in a different state. They wanted to verify that it was a valid transaction. (Which it was.) I called the number on the back of my credit card to double check that the text was valid. It was. I received a text from the same number today asking if I had made purchases in a certain dollar amount with my card. Which I had not. I had put the KeyBank Fraud Alert number in my contacts, so when they did a follow up calI, I knew it was them. They immediately froze that account. They did NOT ask for my full account number, and they already knew my street address. They told me that my card had been used in three different countries in one day and they had fortunately refused the transactions. They told me to expect a new card in 3-5 days. They asked me for NO information, except to verify that I had not made those transactions. If you’re worried, call the number on the back of your credit card before you call the phone number included in the text.
