866-840-4148

this is a call from Progressive mesage center. It is automated with a code for you to call back and hear a message related to your policy.

This call states they are from progressive or one of their affiliates. The call comes from an unknown number and gives 866 840 4148 and a message code to call back with. I was suspicious, and contacted progressive directly through my policy page, and was told this is not their number, nor would they call on the policy. I did not call the number back.

I received a call from 1-866-840-4246, but the message said to call back the number 1-866-840-4148.  Message says they are Progressive insurance, but they are NOT.  I contacted Progressive (via IM) to alert them about this and they said:

"I just spoke with my supervisor and the call you received was not from Progressive. We may call and leave you a message to contact us; however, the number to contact us back will be for our Progressive Service Center (1-800-776-4737).  Also, we will not give you a code to enter to receive a message."

I received the same. Still happening. Be careful with this one. Advise not to call the number back.

Can confirm, this is still happening. The incoming number of 866-840-4246 called my cell at 8:01am, 4:01pm & again at 6:01pm. No message was left the first two times, but the third call did. The voicemail was a canned message that sounded quite convincing in terms of audio & production quality. It said "This is an important message from Progressive for [my name -- inserted by a different, computerized voice]. Please call 1-866-840-4148 & enter message code # 3100006 to retrieve your message. Thank you from Progressive Direct Insurance Company o or one of its corporate affiliates. Goodbye."

I chatted with a Progressive representative who confirmed that there is no note on my account. Don't call for this trick! If nothing else, it likely validates yours as a working phone number with a human on the other end who might be an easy target for other communications.

Just got a call from this number (866-840-4148) with the message number (2600482) to refer to. Too many scams out there these days. No reason for them to call, so I checked here first.

me too, same story, robot asking if I was who they were calling, etc, gave number and a message code to call back.

Just got a call like the others who posted here. Says it's from "Progressive or one of its affiliates" which sounded pretty bogus to begin with and more so that they called my phone saying the call was for my husband but it's my policy. Not bothering to call or even check with progressive. Gotta be a scam.

Message left on my cell.  Recorded message said call was an 'Important message from Progressive Insurance Company.'  Caller knew my name including my middle initial which I seldom use.  Message stated that I needed to call 866-840-4148 and enter a message code which was 7 digits.  Message ended with 'Thank You from Progressive Direct Insurance Company or one of it's corporate affiliates'  I am insured with Progressive and called the phone number on my insurance card.  Told the rep of the message I received;  they looked in their records and did not see any record of an attempt to contact me. The phone number given in the message or the 'received from' number of 866-840-4246 are NOT Progressive Insurance Company Numbers.  SCAM!!

Still happening... Just received a call from this number with the standard message about Progressive and a code to retrieve an answer. Thankfully Google has begun just auto-blocking these calls.

Same just happened to me.  3 calls and only a message from the third one.  Caller had both names on the policy in the message. Called Progressive first and was told that automated calls are completed by Progressive and I should follow the directions.  So I did, the person asked for name, birthday, and last 4 of social.  I didn’t provide the last.  Called progressive back.  Confirmed it was real.  Needed to update license info from WAY back.  Definitely an uncomfortable way of doing things.

This is still happening. Left me a voicemail with the toll-free number and a code to call and retrieve a message about my policy. Called progressive directly and they told me to disregard that it was not them and they would never contact me this way.

To Future Readers/Posters:  It is possible that shills are posting here in support of what may be a phishing scam.  Be very careful what info you offer or confirm to these callers. You can always contact your insurance carrier using a number you KNOW is good and dial for yourself.

I received the same call today. Appreciate everyone posting. There was a message like everyone's with a message code. Yeah, never answer calles without caller IDs or call back numbers people give over the phone. Always directly call the company number.

Got a call from this number claiming to be progressive with my full name and asking me to call back and enter in a pin.  Called Progressive directly from app listed number and nothing was on file for me.  Definitely a scammer.

This is also a way for debt collectors to trick you into verifying you.
