Any party, be it hired by the credit card company, law firm, or not, MUST follow FDCPA law when collecting said funds.  This company FGZ or Frederick, Goldstein and Zoe.. Whatever they call themselves is violating federal law in several ways.
The case with the New York Attorney's office states that by law they are considered a collection agency and are falsely representing themselves, they threaten those they talk to and give court information without intent. Each violation of the FDCPA they make, they owe $1000.00.
Unfortunately these violations are considered minor, but they are still punishable.

I spoke to them today 01/08/10 and they threatened court,fines,losing my car,home etc. They wanted me to postdate a check and give my banking information to them today over the phone,in order to stop court proceedings taking place on Monday 01/11/10. I told them I felt uncomfortable doing this over the phone and please send me something in the mail. His response " I can send you something but you won't get it until tuesday, by then it will be too late". I did an internet search while talking to them(FGZ) and no website was found only this site and an article about suit from ATTY.Ge.Cuomo. Are they a real company? They knew my last 4 digits of my SS#. I am so stressed out by this call. I ended the call by yelling at this man to start the proceedings and hanging up. I can only pray I will not end up in court, I am disabled and had chest pains after this call. I also filed a complaint with the FTC bureau of Consumer protection.

I rec'd this type of call actually they called my Mother's house and was very abusive as I have noticed from others who listed their comments here.  I have since filed a complaint with the Atty General as well.  I have a question to any and everyone here is there any commonality to why we were chosen for this scam.  I think mine is from a robbery of my storage space at Storage Deluxe in '98 and '03.  I'd really like to know if this is how this FGZ got my information?

Orlando Williams says I'm listed as the emergency contact for someone who is not any relation to me at all. Don't know this person. We are threatened with being served at work if Brenda Jordan -no relation - doesnt turn herself in. This is probably the 5th or 6th call we've gotten and I tell them the same thing. This time I told him I was recording HIM and he hung up.

I'm so glad I found this!!! I've been so worried. Got a call from 18669496450 saying someone had bee sent a fax about a lawsuit filed against me. Proceeded to say I had ONE LAST CHANCE to remediate (if lawsuits are filed they don't work that way, they're just filed) and clear my name. Was told in an UGLY voice Mrs...*didn't get my married name right* you have been notified and served. The police will serve papers shortly. I'm in abusive relationship and was gonna tell them "good luck at getting anything from me My husband controls finances." I DONT NEED THIS CRAP!!! Apparently they are still at it, and still GOOD LUCK AT GETTING ANYTHING FROM ME. I HAVE NO JOB. I'm fixing to report them.

yea i got a call from this cvompany today as well. telling me that they got a fax in there office about a legal matter and that i had one chance to take care of it. i called the place and when i asked what the company was she said that they were a accounts payable. i asked her several times was i being legally prosecuted she said no at first and then the 3 time i asked her she said yes. what a bunch of [***]. i fell for it though and are know making payment plans to this company. i do owe money to the company but they shouldnt threaten someone

I just got a call from a "Blocked" number, which I felt compelled to answer as I am currently applying for jobs.

Caller claimed to be "Nicole Smith" calling from "Processing Solutions", she claimed that there was a case filed against me in court (no more specific than that), and that she had sealed documents which she could deliver to my home address for a charge, or alternatively I could call the "mediation company" at 1-866-949-6450 with a claim # which she gave me.

I have viewed my credit report recently, there is nothing bad other than one amount in collections for under $100 - this is from a Wells Fargo account that I closed about 5 years ago, and which after closing, they tried to levy some interest and other charges of around $30. I disputed it with them at the time as the account was closed with a zero balance, but they sent it on to a collections firm anyway, and I am just waiting for the statute  time to expire on that one, I have no intention of ever paying the amount which is now up to around $90, but I have never challenged it either, eg. asking for proof of the debt, etc. I have been simply ignoring calls from a NJ number (another collector) for the past few months now, so I guess they have given up and passed it on to someone else.

A quick google search of the number I was given brought me to a webpage which revealed the number to come from FGZ, a collections firm masquerading as lawyers, based in NY state. I have not called the number back yet, but when I do, I will first of all state (perhaps in an amusing 'robotic' voice) that the call is being monitored and recorded, and that by pressing "1" and remaining on the line, they consent to the recording, and that if they do not consent, they should terminate the call. Never done it before, but I'm told that usually scares off most of the dodgy collectors right away because they know that the BS they are about to tell you is in breach of FDCPA and don't want it to be recorded. If they stay on the line, well, the call really is being recorded and they have had fair warning, so we will see what they have to say....
