- DKNoteI went directly to sprint's webpage and to their customer support (to ensure that I'm talking to the real sprint). I asked them about this and this is their reply verbatim:
---------------------------------------------
Thank you for your reply.
The phone number you mentioned in the previous mail, 8669930196 is not a Sprint PCS number. The calls you received from this number were not made by Sprint.
Thank you again for contacting us.
Sincerely,Khris C. Sprint

- Duane| 1 replyIt was definitely Sprint. I called customer service ( *2 ) and they were able not only to confirm it was them but confirmed the information I was previously told and the tinkering with the account. I was wary because it was unsolicited and an 866 number but I was told that it was because it was a sales call and not from the central Sprint offices.
On a side note I really am not using my plan a whole lot so the change was useful and beneficial to me. So far as Sprint's logic was concerned - from both the salesperson and the customer representative I later called - Sprint is calling people who don't need as big a plan as they have and letting them know they can downgrade and not even get stuck into a contract which is something most are unaware of.
To be honest there was a five minute window where I thought I was scammed, though, and was sweating it a bit.- Caller: Sprint
- BTOWNSE2 replies to punabThe number is from Sprint. They are calling to see if you are happy with your service and things of that nature. Pointless call if you ask me.

They said they were sprint and that they wanted to "evaluate" my plan. Was a little wary at first but everything went ok. The lady I talked to actually said I could follow along so I did, and everything she told me was verified through my sprint account on sprint.com
She was actually able to save me money (roughly 40 per month) since I never really check my usage and didn't need ad many minutes. And having 2 kids on my plan and them wanting internet and all that fancy stuff I'm very happy to save some money in my budget!
If you havent checked your usage in a while it's worth a shot to see if you can save some money. it's rare these days to see a company reach out to it's customer to save them money not make them spend more money.- Caller: Sprint
- Annonymous replies to HugoTafurstAny time you call a major company theyre going to ask for your information. They don't know who you are when youre calling and are going to ask for some info to pull up the account and some type of authentication thing (some company have passwords, others pin numbers, and others security questions). Duh.
Once you get past the legal security stuff they can get on with their job and attempt to help you out. - freeradicalHere it is Aug, 2011 and they are still at it, two days straight now, no message, same as others who have posted here. Thanks for the heads-up guys. I do have Sprint, but I would not trust private information to anyone who communicates in this fashion. Too many hackers out there with the capability of getting much more than your account and phone number. Hell, Sprint cant even call you to let you know you forgot to pay your bill and you are about to be cut off.
- Caller: Who knows? I'd say none.
- jamesI got same call but but won't leave a message. I picked up once but no one said anything. What's so bad is they call my cell phone. Don't know how they got my cell number. The maggets. I am on no call list at home but they still call. Something needs to be done from our state legislature. Its not only annoying it ought to be illegal. Someone needs to be held responsible.
- Nikki replies to DuaneI just spoke with Sprint & asked them about the # as well. They told me the # isn't any of their department #s.
They checked my account & saw no record of a call being made to me.
Here is what they said
I have checked and this phone number does not belongs to any department of Sprint .
I have checked the notes on your account and no call has been made from Sprint .You can ignore this number.I would also like to inform no changes have been made on your account .
It's a scam - sprint userI have been receiving calls from the same number so I called the number I have in my phone for sprint and asked them about it. they said there was nothing on my acct saying sprint had been trying to contact me for any reason. I told them what I had been reading online about it being a scam and they agreed that it probably was good information. also told me I could go online to my acct and block this number from calling me
