- DisgruntledWhen I answered the phone, a lady was talking to someone in the office...rude! She then proceeded to tell me that she was an investigator for Legal Action and needed to verify my address for a summons to appear in court--she knew my name, last four of my SSN, and the county in which I currently reside. She also asked if I was aware of legal action against me concerning this particular credit card.
When I explained that my ex was responsible for this debt via divorce decree nearly 10 years ago, she told me I would need to have that paperwork on hand in court. When I told her I didn't have access to a fax, she then put me on hold and got her manager to talk to me. He tried to tell me that collections court wouldn't honor a divorce decree stating that the other party on a joint account was responsible, that I would have to pay it off in court (or settle out of court) and sue him for reimbursement. I told him to send the summons (didn't give my address!) and I would hire a lawyer. Mind you, the lawyer was to pore over the summons and the information *they* were giving me.
My husband got on the phone and asked for proof of debt and an address (also told the guy I'm pregnant and can't be upset--I really am, but I doubt the guy believed that), but the guy was beating around the bush and wouldn't give the information requested. That's when hubby got online and found this info. Glad we didn't give any information!
The same company called my in-laws' and harassed them via answering machine trying to find me, and their number isn't anywhere in my credit report!! Also, we don't have a land line, so I'm not sure how they got my cell number...- Caller: Legal Action
- LindaGot 2 calls from 1 from Kelly Scott then Dalisa both stating that legal action was going to be started unless a phone call was returned. Called the number from my atty's office, no one answered the phone but a messages was left to have either party call and visit with my atty. To date, no return call has been received by my atty and the harrassing calls have stopped too? I think when push comes to shove, they get scarred and back off. I too have filed a complaint with the FCC and the local police department. Had both calls on answering machine tape which police have taken as evidence. Their time is short now!!!
- arnold bernsteina roz benson at ext. 122 called this morning stating that allegations were made against me and that this is a civil complaint and I am under investigation and that a Sheriff will subpoena me if I do not respond back to them. I searched on google.com under the telephone number that I got from them and all this blog information from them comes up. I am complaining that they discontinue to call my home number with claims of a lawsuit and allegations and that I am under investigation. Case # cc 16561

- SusanMy father recieved a message on his business phone saying that I needed to call them back immediately because basically I was being sued. My father gave me their info and I called to see what it was. When they answered, they were very rude. I did not give out any of my information. I asked them who they were and who they were representing but they refused to give me any information unless I gave them the case number. I refused to do such as I was highly suspicious. I then researched them online and found lots of info from this site and another. I believe they were trying to reach me about a Discover card from 1999. Recently, I had checked my credit report through 3 different agencies and it came back clear without that Discover card on them because it was beyond the statue of limitations so they debt was gone. This did not show on any credit report! I believe they are trying to illegally collect on a debt that is no longer valid. Following the lead of others, I have reported them to the FTC. I recommend everyone doing this against this bogus company. It only took me like 5 minutes. If they call me or my relatives anymore, I am going to also report them to the FBI and local authority's if needed. Let's collectively get these people gone!

- unknownI am glad I Googled the number. I appreciate all the comments. I received a call today and I now know that I will ignore this matter. Thank you for your helpful comments.
- unknownI received a phone call from an investigator named Steven Praten. He said there would be a complaint filed against me and I need to follow up immediately due to the fact this is a legal matter. He did end the message with " good bye and good luck". From the comments stated above, I will be ignoring this matter. Thanks everyone for your helpful comments and address to file complaints about this company.
- DaveMy wife got a call yesterday from these scam artists. They were trying to collect on a 15 yr old debt of her ex. Statute of limitation is 3 yrs in this state, but I heard that it goes away if you offer them money or say you are responsible for the debt. Someone else told me that if they give you a summons, you should go because if you don't they can say that is an admission of guilt. Like to know if anyone has gotten actual summons from these creeps.
- StewartMy aunt in Texas got a call from these crooks and of course she panicked and forwarded me their contact information. It is the highly spurious use of titles like "Investigator" and "civil action" and even the threat of arrest that prompts anyone from bothering to contact them. Unfortunately, I did call them and while I was put on hold I managed to Google their phone number and voila! A complete and heinous scam that should be reported forthwith to the FTC.
- JoleneMy husband got a call from this company today trying to say we had some 11 year old debt. I knew better since we have perfect credit (I have a ery recent copy of our credit report). When asked for verification of debt they refused to give it. I did submit a complaint with the FTC. I'm certain they use scare tacticts to try to get money out of anybody and everybody. Don't fall for it!
- Lee BallsI got the call today, didn't answer the phone but i listened to the voicemail. Scared the hell out of me because they were threatining leagal action against my wife!!! Me... maybe, I'm a musician and have a past. But she is as pure as the driven snow and saved me! They had called my dad first in a complete different town with a complete different area code to find her. My father, (God bless him) gave them my # instead of hers as not to upset her.
The call I got was from Steve Proter, or Procter something like that, his voice seemed to trail off on the last name. When I called back, he was the one who answered, but put me on right away with a "Special Investigator" Hawthorne. He had a lot to say and would not let me get a question in at all.
When I finally did get to ask what this was about he told me that it was a default on a Nissan car. SHE HAD GIVEN IT BACK IN 1991!!!!!!!!!!
Her credit is pristene, and that fell off of her credit YEARS ago!!! She was 20 at the time. she's 39 now! That's 19 years folks! The statute of limitations has longgggg run out! I'm pissed!- Caller: 18772013399
- simpsonvilleI got a call from them and the guy was trying to identify me by some alias names oka, I knew then he was up to no good a scam and just by reading these comments I am glad I didnt fall in the trap. Thanks Google and all who shared their comments.
- Rex Allena "so called" investigator by the name of maxine called my 12 year old niece today looking for me. when my niece informed maxine that i wasn't there she went into telling my 12 year old niece that if i didn't call her back in 15mins then she would send a sheriff out to arrest me. so strange b/c when i called her back to see what was going on she didn't even have the correct address for me & then wanted me to tell her my social. i think not. she informed me that there would be a warrant issued for my arrest & a bunch of more bull so i just hung up on her. she called me back after tracing my # & left a message on my voicemail wishing me and/or my attorney luck & then said "we'll see you in court" & you will pay the price of not taking care of this. i really don't know who the hell this company thinks they are but this is out of control. again, this accrued w/my 12 year old niece.

- PetersonWARNING: Exercise good judgement and extreme caution when dealing with the persons at thie organization.
My ex-boyfriend received a phone call from an "Investigator Maxine Billings". She alleged that I was in a bad situation and a "Sheriff" would be appearing at his place of residence within 48 hours regarding an urgent matter.
He relayed the message and I returned the call, hoping to learn to what this "urgent matter" pertains.
First, "Investigator" Huntley answered the call. I asked for the name, mailing address and fax number of the organization. She would not disclose this information and requested the case number. I provided the information and she put me on hold.
Two minutes later, "Investigator" Maxine Billings picked up and asked for my case number. Then put me on hold while she had my "case pulled from records". She then preceded in a harrassing and aggressive manner to inform me a Sherriff Richard was scheduled to go to my place of residence / work and serve me with court papers. She asked if I had received the written communication regarding this urgent matter.
When she finished her pitch, I asked her for the Company's name, address and phone number. She told me "Legal Action" but would not provide the contact information. I asked her if this was an attempt to collect a debt. She bluntly replied. "No. You aren't listening. We are an investigative firm and we are verifying information so you can be served a court summons to appear. But since you said you didn't get our letters...I'll see if I can speak with my Director on your behalf. So the Sheriff doesn't have to knock on your door. Please hold."
I waited patienly on hold for approximately 4 minutes, when a "Special Investigator Victor, Director" answered the line. He immediately began his spiel, "Ms. Peterson we are looking for a woman between the ages of __ to __. With a social security number of ****. Previous residences of X and Y. Are you this woman?"
I asked him for his company's contact information. He then tried to speak over me, louder and more forcefully, "Ms. Peterson. WE ARE LOOKING FOR..." and began his spiel again.
I explained to him I am hesitant to answer any questions to an individual whom cannot identify his firm, the nature of their call and pertinent contact information.
He then preceded to inform me that he was calling from BankFirst (not on my credit report) and I'm being sued for breech of contract and defrauding a Federal Bank which is punishable by fines and possible jail time.
I informed Special Investigator Victor, Director that his tone and comments were threatening and harrassing in nature. I also commented that I will not continue to communicate with an organization that utilizes agressive threats and outlandish behavior. I communicated due to his noxious behavior, all future communications should be in writing and this and all future verbal conversations going forward would be recorded as an objective record.
He began to scream and use profane language while trying to convey he did not authorize the recording of this conversation. Then hung up.
I called back several times to Legal Action but they would not provide Victor's last name or their contact information, they also refused to provide proof of debt--saying "You'll get it when the Sheriff comes for you."
I'll repost to advise if their alleged "Sheriff Richards" appears but interim, you should exercise caution dealing with these individuals. It smells like a scam.
Personally, I'm filing a complaint with the FTC, BBB and Georgia's Attorney General. The tactics used by this company are abusive and ridiculous. I hope if enough calls / messages / claims are made and filed. They will act to put an end to this type of behavior.- Caller: Legal Action Recovery

- ms.meany 2.0So which special agent are you "ms.sweetie 2.0"? Anyone that threatens litigation or even incarceration (in a civil matter none the less!) is far from a sweet heart as you say.
Folks, you cannot be "picked up by the sheriff" on a civil matter. The worst that can happen is you get issued with papers to appear. Any attempts to make you think otherwise is illegal as is impersonating an official. If a collection company tries to buy you out with a reduced settlement, it only proves they are scraping for spare change.
Never acknowledge the debt, even if you think it may be yours. This and the offer to pay back over time only restarts the statute of limitations on the collection.- Caller: Legal Action Recovery
- kookooThis is the second time my relatives and myself have been called. The last took place two years ago. Evidently, filing with the FCC and the AG's offices in several states did not help.
It's the same all over again. You would think by now, they would have been stopped.
Just block the number and do not talk to them. I guess they try again and again to make a buck. - WterryI received a threatening call from the phone number 877-201-3399 stating that they were Investegators for Jeffery Goldsmith - retained by Bank of Ameria to collect a debt for a line of credit in 2003. THIS IS A SCAM ! they gave me their names, company name of Legal Action and that actual number 877-201-3399 They were treatening me with a civil suit thru pima county. I cut the caller off telling them never to call me again. Made some phone calls to Bank of Ameria and they never heard of this company and do not collect debt that way anyway. Called back the number and when i exposed this to the 2nd so called Investigator - he said he could not find my file, and when i told him he is commiting fraud he said ... disregard our call and hung up on me. When you look up the number 877-201-3399 with the company name Legal Action - this is a SCAM -- please do not be scammed and report this to the Federal Trade Comission

- m.k.m.Client of mine, and some of his family members, received phone calls from these people referencing a vauge "legal action" in New Jersey regarding a Nissan purchase in N.J. years ago. Client has never been to N.J., never bought a Nissan, so I call to get some info. First call, with "Heather Huntley" ends with a request for me to fax a letter of representation. Fair enough, I fax it, get no return phone call. Next day I call back, now I'm transferred to "the supervisor" Mitch Lawrence. Mitch Lawrence refuses to give me any information regarding the alleged claim. When I asked "Is there a lawsuit pending" and "Who is your client", he tells me he will not give me that information without me paying him for it! Very bizarre. Tells me "wait for the summons, you know what a summons is, don't you?" Again very bizarre behavior for someone who is actually trying to collect on a legitimate debt. Alot more bizarre comments, but one that stuck out was, in response to my comment that there is some negative information on this company on the internet and I'm calling to give them the benefit of the doubt, he said, "we've done a lot of research on you too". He also asked my my "won-loss" record at trial and told me to be prepared to "notch another loss". I don't know what to make of these people. I called Nissan and they have not heard of this company.
