- Pat B| 1 replyAnswering machine picked up and the following message was left "...ninety nine cents on Codashop, which was declined. For your account protection, we have temporarily blocked your card. For further verification please call us back on our toll free number +1-877-218-4918."

- Yochanan replies to Pat BDefinitely a scam/phishing call from 877-218-4918. Got the same exact message as Pat B ("...charge on your CIBC credit/debit card... on Codashop, which was declined..."). I called the actual CIBC Fraud number (800-465-4653) to "verify" if my card was "blocked" and it was not. Did block my phone number and try the fraudulent 877 number, and they will answer it as "this is (name) at CIBC Fraud Department. How may I help?" Don't do it!

It is probably a scam! - dizI received a call today from 877-218-4918. the male person/voice calling had an east indian or pakistani voice and claiming someone tried to make an online purchase using my account. He said the person trying to make the transaction was a person named Julie Jackson. He tried to sound legit by asking if I knew that person. He provided his cibc employee number as 998261. He said He needed my card number or account number to stop the transaction. I told him I'll call my bank to verify this. He said that he would let the transaction go through if I did not provide the information to him. I just told him 'no he wouldn't' and hung up. I searched online for the cibc online fraud number/telephone banking number and came up with 1-800-465-2422. Please note that this number has been mentioned by Yochanan above in other comments on the fraud scam and he suggested this is not a legit number for cibc and he offers you to call another number to contact cibc. This most likely is part of the scam? I called what I believed to be the cibc number 1-800-465-2422 and the person that answered the call had the same voice as the original caller. This leaves me in confusion and I now need to confirm from cibc if 1-800-465-2422 is their number and also that it might be possible that someone from cibc might be involved in the scam. The supposed person trying to make the fraudulent transaction 'Julie Jackson' is listed as a person deceased on the internet. My suggestion is to call your bank directly to get any cibc number as it's possible any number for cibc could be leading you to the fraudster to continue the scam. My cibc branch is in Edmonton and is presently under renovations.
