- Phenobarbarella| 1 replyThis number is Wells Fargo.
My family went from our home in Georgia to New Orleans for spring break. One evening, my wife and I went to Harrah's casino. I have to assume places like casinos are HUGE triggers for fraudulent activity on stolen credit cards. Unfortunately, I'd forgotten what my ATM withdrawal limit was, and asked for an amount larger than that which was declined. Then, when I asked for a smaller amount, I think it triggered the fraud prevention alert at WF. Anyway, they called and left a message with this number (877) 316-2157. I was just about to call it when I realized it wasn't the regular customer service number. So I called that number instead (the one on the back of every WF debit card), and the customer service rep there confirmed for me that yes, that was the fraud department's phone number (or at least one of them).- Caller: Wells Fargo
- wf customerI called WF
- gnjmstr replies to RoHeHuman caller literally asked for the 3 security numbers on the back of my card right off the bat.
Wells Fargo will NEVER ask for these numbers!!
Theyre doing some kind of hold on my account that even Wells Fargo hasnt spotted. Called legit Fraud and went into branch and they still saw nothing. Yet I was unable to withdraw any money from an ATM.
Closed Account. - wells Fargo replies to bob wallaceThis is wells Fargos fraud protection. It's not a scam.
- BridgetThis number has called three times in 16 hours. Once was private and they left a voice mail to "Diane" about suspicious activity in my wells Fargo account which I don't even have. Now this number has called twice since this morning. I'm blocking this POS. I hope they catch you and put you where you belong.
- Caller: Wells Fargo
- DIANEMY HUSBAND GOT 3 CALLS TODAY (9/23/14) ... all the same ... automated calls & message, stating from WELLS FARGO FRAUD DEPT and that there were possibly phony charges made on one of our accounts. LUCKILY, he was just leaving the bank when the call came in, so he turned around and talked to a Teller. SHE CONFIRMED THAT IT IS PHONY and they've been getting lots of reports recently.
- Caller: WELLS FARGO FRAUD DEPT (not true)
- Call type: Prank
- dee replies to Anotherconcerned CitizenI got a call from this number to like 3 times and it was saying that this is fraud prevention at wells Fargo calling about important information a automated system and to put in the phone number associated with my account i did and it said that that was the wrong number asked again and it told me too hold on it was going to put someone on the phone i hang up didnt sound right..and im just trying to see if this happen to anyone alse
- DonIt was Wells Fargo. Just got a new card. Tried to use it and was denied. Fraud prevention called with this number. It did not ask anything that would be helpful for steeling my info. It asked if I was me press 1. Then it asked if I attempted a specific transaction. Press 1 if yes. Etc.... Perfectly harmless. As always if you are afraid when dealing with banking info just call the number on your card. Just reporting that this is legit.
- Caller: Wells Fargo Fraud Prevention
- kim replies to RoHewow thank you for writing all this i got one today and i just hang up.
freaky! - jasonGot multiple calls from this number today.
- Caller: says wells fargo fraud
- isabelIs NOT wells fargo! Scam!
- Caller: scam
- Call type: Prank
- SCHachtTHIS IS WELLS FARGO
I felt it was fishy once the automated voice said "press 1 now if this is (silence....the automated voice did not mention my name).
Upon calling a representative at Wells Fargo, they looked up my account. The rep did not locate the note until I told her when I received the call. Once I did that, she found the note that said Fraud Prevention had left me a message.
Later, I confirmed with the Fraud Prevention Rep that the only information the automated voice asks for is your zip code.
Believe or don't. Always do the right thing and call in if you're suspicious. If the rep can't find a note from the Frud Dept., make sure you let them know the exact time and date you received the call. That will help the rep find the note easier.- Caller: Wells Fargo
- HughWhatever they say, this is debt collection agency, Allied Interstate. I'm not sure why they are calling me, however their tactics are deplorable and probably criminal, especially representing themselves as a bank. They have been under investigation and been fined large amounts. but still continue. Hang up, block their number if you can.
- Caller: Allied Interstate
- Call type: Debt collector
- AnonJust got a call from this number claiming to be Wells Fargo's fraud department. Pressed 1 to my name, then when asked for my zip code, hung up. I called Wells Fargo, and they verified this is not a Wells Fargo number, deeming it to be a fake.
- Caller: Wells Fargo
- Anon replies to PhenobarbarellaI just called Wells Fargo today (Dec 2015) and the WF rep confirmed this was not a WF number. I talked to the fraud dept and there were no messages for me.
- AnonymThis is not WELLSFARGO. It is a debt collection scam perpetrated by Allied Interstate LLC.
The call states that it is fraud protection for Wellsfargo but I highly doubt WF is going to use another company to provide their security calls, particularly not one that has been sued several times for their collection tactics.
The ALLIED INTERSTATE website clearly states:
"This communication is from Allied Interstate LLC, a collection agency that is attempting to collect a debt."- Caller: Allied Interstate,, aka NOT really wellfargo
- Call type: Debt collector
- Paul Thomas CahillReceived a voice mail from this number, but rather than listen to the message, I looked the number up on the net and was referred to your website. I do have a Wells Fargo account, so my concern is heightened.
- Caller: Unknown - voice mail left - did not listen, but checked the number via the net.
- CarolynI was still at the store where my card just got declined when this call came in, I was trying to call the number on the back of my debit card so I didn't answer. Long story short it was wellsfargo fraud dept. but I wouldn't have given an incoming caller my info anyway.
- Caller: Wellsfargo
- Fraud SquadPart of a fraud campaign targeting numerous financial institutions. Note the pattern of shill postings all claiming the number is real - an obvious giveaway.
The large number of phony posts claiming the call is real come from some con artists spamming the site to try to fool people. There is a similar pattern to other fake calls claiming to be from Chase, Citibank, Bank of America, US Bank, Wells Fargo, RBC, PayPal, etc. all with the same shill postings:

- Carolyn| 2 repliesDespite "fraud alerts" implication that I am a con getting "shill" for my post I assure you I get paid nothing for my post and suggest this phony is a shill. Most look these numbers up to educate themselves, not for some fake post scaring them for a penny. I posted because when my card was declined for no reason I panicked (have had account wiped out by a theif) had I answers that call I would have cone nuts. This happened on a Sunday so banks where closed. As I said in my original post...authentic or not DONT GIVE OUT YOUR INFO TO AN INCOMING CALLER. Call a number you know is legittamit for your bank.
