You are probably referring to LIHEAP - Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program. I am skeptical about them calling people, I don't believe cold calls happen in my state/county but it is possible other assistance programs might make informational calls regarding the program in your state/county if you are already getting other lower income assistance.

HOWEVER --- This number is associated with Robo Calls by another website, so be careful about calls that show this number in your Caller ID; Careful about what info you offer or confirm. If you are interested finding about about LIHEAP in your state, you can do a web search that specifies LIHEAP and your State. That is the safer path.

The number is listed on the website in a paragraph warning that the emergency 2023-2024 benefit ends on July 19th (today).  Perhaps that is why they are calling?

Maybe. Seems to me that the poster would know or be participating in the program if they were getting called. I am thinking the number could be spoofed.

Always possible.  The scammers are so clever these days.  Always a good idea to call the published number rather than answer questions when they call. One of my CC companies has adopted a policy of leaving messages telling customers to call the number on their card rather than have customers answer a cold call.
