- its very easy to stop them! Also be very careful what info you do give them - they will use everything you say to them against you-as if they were cops.I don't really know if a court would look at you poorly if you do lie to them but it's probably best not to say any personal facts-just stick to the out of a job and how much you get ,if any, from unemployment(they would be able to check that out.)Don't give them a running tally of your bills unless they will accept a payment plan from you - they will only set you up with a payment plan if you have income of some kind. They may "forgive" up to 60% of your debt, they will lower their interest, and remove late fees-if you pay the agreed amount off within 5 yrs.But remember- any money they writeoff they will send you a 1099 and you will have to claim it on your taxes as income.A better way to do it is file bankruptcy. What the banks wont tell you is this - you will probably only have to pay 20% of your debt, in ten years, and you dont have to claim the writeoff on your taxes. The banks will tell you it will ruin your credit forever but guess what, it's 7 years, and you will look just as bad if you set up a debt plan with the bank.So if you can, file bankruptcy.
- Wrong numberThey called and left a message. The lady said she was trying to help whoever out and left a detailed message with call back number and extension. This is the first call I got from them.

I am letting know of the problem I have with making payment on time. I’ve kep my account up to date. But now I’v had a problem and seem not to have concern from you.
Unfortunately I suffered a Stroke in the mid of July. I was treated on the 13th although sojme earlier problems seemed to flar up; An y wayu, I was in the hospital till the 17th. It was a long time till I understand the date after the loss of memery.
Someone from CitICard yelled at me several times about being a bad payment. I could not seem to take to anyone there and I guess changed the payment. I never wanted to change the schedule and cannot do this. I seems like no one matters that severe health lack of hope form you.
Some of today s understamding is helping my choice on payment is not real. I did not attempt to mess this up; completely mess cause of bad Stroke time. I need you to be reaasonalbele please. It has takon a while to make this a correct effort asn your correcting this is needed from you.
What I maild you was what I’ve tried to keep up; your understanding is what all is needed. Wat you send minimum is not right.
Thank you

- ATTENTION everyone! For all of you who don't know your rights and what a company can or cannot do you should all go to this website: http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre18.shtm. It tells you what you can do to stop the incessant calls and rude behavior on the part of debt collectors. It is really very informative. I have already used it on chase and it does work -they notate your records and then all the annoying bad stuff stops. Basically, I told them I only want calls after 1 PM and before 7PM and that once they reach me there can be no more calls for that day. Also rude and intimidating behavior has also stopped. All the big companies will follow the rules, smaller companies may not.

- BobI just turn the ringer off and let them call all they want. Privacy Star works great for your cell phone.
- slinky replies to anelisetoo late! i wasn't late on my payments until they raised the interest rate. they raised the rate because my balance was too high compared to my limit. this happened about a month after they lowered the limit to barely over what i owed. basically they created the situation, then punished me for it. i hate them.
- tonya replies to sandyYes it's citi. I used to get up to 20 times a day! Because I can only pay what I can afford a month .I put my answer machine on "announcement only" and turn ringer off. It seems to work ,now I get maybe 3 a day. My hours have been cut at my job so I haven't been able to make the minimum payments so I pay what I can a month.(I told citi that) I was a loyal card memeber for years and they cancelled my card, and sent me a letter because of late payment history(not with them with my mortgage co.) the reason why I was late on mortgage is because I was paying citi first and sometimes paying them more than regular payment! That's the thanks I get!Now I pay my mortgage first and I pay citi what I can at the end of the month. I called them once I got that letter told them from now on I would be paying at the end of the month and what i can afford. Then I sent them a "CEASE AND DESIST LETTER" stating they are not to contact me by phone. Any correspondance is to be made by mail. They still called after recieveing the letter and I informed them by phone.I sent them a Cease and Desist letter and they are not to be calling. They are to contact me by mail only. The citi employee got nasty with me and said she can call anytime they want. I said: by law your not and have a nice day and hung up! Don't bother calling you get no where pay what you can a month. I tried talking to them at first it doesn't work. all they ask is what can you pay right now. I am so mad they used are tax dollars to bail their ownselves out! By law you can pay them a dollar a month if that's all you can afford .
- mikeonthelake877-792-8215 calls me at least once a day. I pay my bill regularly. About 6-months ago I incurred a late fee of $35. I called customer service and after the clerk checked with her supervisor they agreed to "waive the late fee". My bill shows a 'late' fee, but no other cash penalty. But these idiots in collections keep on calling...constantly. I will prove to be stronger than they are! I put this number in my contacts and labeled it IDIOTS. Now when they call I either don't answer or hit ignore. I also think they "know" when I use my phone. For example I receive a text and respond to the text...within a few minutes I get a call from IDIOTS. If I answer by accident, you can hear a series of clicks and then they wake up the minimum wage worker to answer the phone. Occasionally I will get a message from IDIOTS stating "Please call citicard; we need to speak to you about an urgent matter with your account" I will win this battle!.

- friend replies to D RhoadesYou can refuse the increased rate and freeze your card, which is what I did when they hiked my rate while I was employed. I pay on time, and it didn't matter, they still hiked my rate, so I froze my card at the old rate. Yes, the new regs let you do that.
- Stalked in HawaiiThey also call from 208-758-0221 and never leave a message. I don't know who is calling or why.

- KittThis is the first time I have gotten a call from this number, but I often get calls from Citi's numerous other numbers. I've started blocking the most persistent numbers through my cell phone service. A lot of times I will call the number back and press some annoying song to the speaker. They annoyed me, I can annoy them back. I know I have an outstanding balance, but I missed one (1) payment because I was completely broke and they had jacked up the minimum payment for no reason. Now even their "smallest" repayment option is larger than my paychecks! My current minimum payment is larger than what I make in a month. Yet they keep calling, which just stresses me out about how I can't pay anything. My tax refund already went to paying off another card I had gotten behind on, as well as student loans. This is far too ridiculous.

- AnnieI also got a call from this number that was suspicious. It was left on my cell phone. When I called. a woman asked me for my social security card and date of birth to clarify my account (and I don't have a Citicard) -- I didn't give her either!!

- xlutherCitibank, aka ShitiBank, is the worst. I had made payment arrangements which I made for a year. they then raised my APR to 29.99%. which more than doubled the monthly payment. I attempted, multiple times, to negotiate a continuation of the repayment plan and "do the right thing". They were adamant that they would not do that. So, now instead of paying them back many thousands of dollars at a reasonable rate, they will get NONE! Nice going Citi!
- SusanWhile this number is legitimate for Citibank Collections .. there is a ton of "spoofing" of these numbers going on .. the scammers ratcheted up about August 2011. So best to not answer and just keep in contact with Citi if you have an account even if you're unable to pay them..beat 'em to the punch and call them once a month and say: I still can't make a payment and then hang up. No sense in talking to more than one of their people who don't communicate between each other or computers. It is a computer that's calling you each time..everytime. It pulls up your number and a call center employee is just sitting there when the phone lites up. They know very little info except that you're over due or 30 mins late with a payment..so they really have no access to "helpful" info or any direct contact with the real agents at Citi. I go into my cell account and Block 'em from calling me or me calling that number back. On my account this will work for 90 days then you have to do all over again. Holds up to 100 numbers though. You're wasting your time trying to give any sort of explanation and disrupting what little peace you may have whatever your situation so stop responding to them and just call in once a month as mentioned above, using their posted number on website. Then set it and forget it. This is the environment that is set up these days...

- Semi-Sweet| 1 replyI get calls from them all the time. I never answer unknown numbers. I do not have a Citi Card, or any other credit card. I have a checking account with a debit, not from Citibank. I got tired of it and have answered a few times. The one time I spoke to someone, not dead air they asked who they were speaking with and I said, "You called me, shouldn't you know?" They said I needed to identify myself for security purposes. Lol! I owe nothing to any company and do not intend to. I do intend to file a complaint with Citibank though.
