I got calls from a "debt collection" company saying I was being sued about a debt from 2006.  I asked for proof of the debt and they said they couldn't give me any proof.  I call the FTC and the State Offices to find out info on the company.  The Debt Collection company was not registered in the state.  The FTC said it sounds like the company is an illegal collection company because they are supposed to verify the debt by law.  So, I told them I wouldn't pay anything without proof.  They said someone was coming out to serve me.  Noone ever showed.  Now I got a call from this number saying that they are a Legal Firm and that they are sending my case to the county.  I'm thinking this is a scam.  Why do I keep getting calls threatening to sue me?  Wouldn't they just serve me?

Person is calling all of my family telling them they are a mediation company trying to collect a debt. Said it was regarding a bounced check. I do not write checks. They do not have any debt info to provide or my social security #. They are rude and threatening. If a comany wants to sue or serve you they don't threaten you about it on the phone as it's illegal for collection agencies to do this. If a legitimate company wants to serve you they will. Don't ever give them any personal information. Real debt collectors have all your personal info.

got a call from Ms B......said to give one of our employees a message..gave phone # & case number and said to tell employee to give it to their attorney.  Said she will keep the case open till a particular time today...when she gave case # for me to give to attorney, said it ended in F...like FEDERAL.

Horrible form of intimidation...also FDCPA rules dictate that information is not to be given out to other individuals...which this person did do.

I received a call at my JOB and HOME telephone number from 877-844-2770 ext. 207 Albert Oliver, investigator  to have my attorney call him as soon as possible. I do not write checks.  I have contacted my attorney to return the telephone call.

Ms. Bradley called and tolkd my mother there were 3 cases against me and that she had to hear from me within the hour to prevent me from being arrested for fraud.
_The calling number was 877-844-2770 and labeled as unknown.  I believe this to be a scam and somebody trying to scare people into making payments.

I got the same call too.  Sounds like a scam to me!

Julie Taylor left a voice message on my answering machine for a relative of mine.  She did not give a company name but said that she was calling from the Fraud and Worthless Check Div. and that if she did not get a call back, she would be forced to turn the matter over to the county for collection.  This is the thing, the relative that she was calling for, stopped using checks years ago.  Her payroll check goes direct deposit and she uses her debit card for all her purchases.  That raised a serious red flag, so I googled the number only to find out that they've been doing this same thing to other people.  This definately sounds like a scam.

Let me educate all those on this site who don't know or obey the law: it is illegal in all 50 states to tender a draft (whether paper or electronic) with the funds not available. This means debit card drafts or electronic drafts or paper checks written to a merchant. If one logs onto a website to solicit funds they are acknowledging responsibility for that action. Requesting a payday loan be funded is a legal agreement and is applicable to state law. If you are given a loan and payment is to be made with a draft, that draft is considered legal tender. There is no such thing as free money! Pay your debts and you will never have to be subject to collections nor litigation. It is simple, collections of justly owed funds by banks and recovery agencies is never pleasant. Pay your debts when due and you can avoid interaction with these entities. Remember the economy is in the poor state it is in because of people who believe in trying to get a free ride!

I also got a call from a Ms. Hall from this number.  She was actually very nice.  I knew I got the payday loans but after going thru a terrible divorce my account was closed and I moved back home with my mom.  When she called I owed like $400 more than I originally owed and was furious, my mom contacted a family friend who is an attorney and he advised me to just pay it.  We called Ms. Hall back and she actually took all the collection fees off which was like $200.  My mom took care of it and Ms. Hall emailed us both a paid in full receipt.  I have to say it was not a bad experience and I am glad that it is done and I owe nobody nothing now.

   You sound like one of the idiots who are calling people with this scam trying to collect money. It is funny to me how you conveniently come on this site trying to get people to pay money to a GHOST com[any who is trying to collect money on debts that they cant even prove exist (which is REQUIRED BY LAW), NOR can they even prove that the company that they are collecting for is LEGITIMATE, or EVEN EXISTS!
    People, even if you DO owe money for debts, OR worthless checks, THERE IS A PROPER AND LEGAL WAY FOR YOU TO BE NOTIFIED!!!!!  Do NOT get intimidated by these SCAMS, OR the PEOPLE RUNNING THEM! I was also contacted by this company, and I live in NC. The lady who left me the message was VERY rude, and tried to sound threatening. It didn't make me mad, because I know that if a check comes back on me, they have to PROVE that I wrote the check! And I dont EVEN have a checking account!!! (BY CHOICE)!!

Wow! This IS a scam because I too got the exact same call from a Miss Bradley and then shortly after that another call from a Walt Shafer. The calling number was the same also: 877-844-2770 ext. 219 for Miss Bradley and ext. 212 for Walt Shafer. Walt Shafer then goes on to  tell me that he's the Commissioner or something like that.

I would seriously like to know what all of us can do about this since it's happening to a large number of people. Any ideas?

Called me today.....Jessica M... very rude....gave me case # that ended in F.....and her extension....wanted me to record statement (which I did not).  Wanted me to have my lawyer contact her.  Said that she was going to forward the info to my State and County to issue a warrant......never received anything in the mail from this company or anything.......what should I do?

If u know that u made the debt then u should take care of it.. They can if they want file charges if indeed u gave them ur bank info checks are a bad thing ..If u don't have the money then u shouldn't write them I have a friend that got in alot of trouble for this same thing she thought that they were playing or tring to scam her an didn't pay an wind up going 2 jail an paying more than what was ..owed

So do you still beleive it is ok for them to contact you and tell you that you are responsible for a loan you  co-signing for on-line that you had no prior knowledge of before they called you demanding money right then and if you refuse to pay they are filing it on your credit.  I beleive the payday loans are at fault for not checking out all information and being stupid enough to allow people to get a loan online.  I know some people do not have good credit and make bad choices from time to time however, do not beleive that gives them the right to call me and be ugly to me for something I didnt even do.

This osunds like a scam and my State's Attorney General's office couldn't locate them. Beware!

I was contacted by this number and happened to be home alone with my 3 year old and they threatened me with having me arrested in 2 hours if I did not pay the bill. I got scared made a partial payment they spoke with some family and they said this was a scam. How about now my bank won't help me get my money back.

If it was a scam, your bank would help you..  Why don't you call the company and ask for a validation letter and/or a receipt for the payment you have already made??

says i have a warrant out for my arrest
