Keep getting occasional marketing texts from Asda George which say to stop receiving messages text "Asdastop" to 88811. However, when I tried to do that my phone warned me that it would cost money to text to that number (these numbers are not included in your free texts allowance and will always be charged) and I don't see why I should pay money to stop a marketing text service that I never even signed up for! A bit of online research found that this marketing text service using the 88811 number is run by Mobile Marketing Group. Their landline number is 0207 873 2421 and you can call them direct on that number and require them to remove you from their lists and not to send you further marketing texts. The website where I found this info said this was successful in stopping the messages, have just called them myself and been told they will get my number removed as soon as possible. Will wait and see if it works.

Same, just had a text from this number stating they are from Asda.   I have just blocked it.  Calling advertisers lets them know you want your number removed, just means they will sell your number on to another advertiser, as a CONFIRMED active number.  BLOCKING the number locally on your phone, means you won't see any more messages from them, and they waste money sending messages that no one will see.  Which I think is the better way to deal with these people.

Same number has been texting me for about a month but mine is Laura Ashley info.

So it says text Asdastop but the text won't send. Harsher penalties needed for these pests!

Ordered our xmas turkey from Asda and been getting messages on this number since.

Who is this number

Not sure if this is LauraAshley sanctioned, but I can confirm it is a scam - will cost you a chargeable text (even if you have unlimited texts). Definitely not something I signed up for, so it's a pure money-making scam. As identified above - just block the number/prefix on your phone to deny them getting a verified number.

I received a text for some mint code from this number, no idea what or why they sent it and don't plan on finding out.

Got a text from 88811 saying Your Mint code is #####
But have no idea where its from. Blocking, but super sketch. When i googled it, its a shortcode for socialight. But i couldnt even find a site for it.

I got a Mint code at the end of August and now a TurboTax code today...sketchy as hell. Blocking. Make sure you have two-step authentication activated on everything you possibly can.

They took over my version account

Just received textfrom 88811 sayi ng my "TurboTax Code is xxxxx".  Did not order TurboTax.  I did not click on link, but am curious what would happen (Apple OS).  I did have identity stolen a couple weeks ago when someone opened bank accounts, took out loans in  my name.  I assume unrelated ????
