I keep getting these calls, and my numbers are on the Dot Not Call registry.... if they keep doing it... will have to resort to drastic measures!

These guys are professional fund raisers.. They aren't actually a non-profit organization themselves, but they hire themselves out to charities (who explicitly are exempted from abiding by the federal Do Not Call list, along with "political" calls and "surveys") in return for a cut of whatever they manage to raise in donations. They may also hire out for political calls (which are generally really just solicitations for donations) or surveys also; I'm not sure.

The State of New York did a study of 602 professional fundraising campaigns in 2011 and the amount ultimately received by the charities was about 38.5% of the total amount donated. In 1 out of 8 campaigns, the charity actually LOST money as a result of the campaign due to the expenses being greater than the revenue. MDS appears in this report, and seems to be a bit better than average in that they ran several campaigns where the amount of the money raised that actually went to the charity approached 2/3 (they also ran several where the charity didn't get anything out of the campaign, but at least I didn't see any of theirs where the charity lost money).

They claim to maintain their own internal Do Not Call list, and may even actually do so rather than simply using it as a list of phone numbers that they know connect to live people, depending on which side of the sleazy/illegal line they operate on. Based on the NY State report, I'm guessing they're in "sleazy" territory rather than "illegal" (and, to give the devils their due, they seem to be further back from the line than a lot of such companies).

I don't know what specific charity they were calling on behalf of this time, but it doesn't really matter because I don't donate to charities through phone calls anyway. If I care enough about a cause to donate money, I want all of it to go to the charity, not to have some portion used to support telemarketers.

Caller identified herself as St. Jude solicitor.  Wanted donation of $100 to $200 or whatever I could afford.  Indicated that I could make my donation via credit card.  Since I have previously sent donations to St. Jude, I didn't have to question how they got my name, but how did they get my phone number?  Person indicated that a mailing would be received by me so that I could forward a personal check for donation--which I will not do.  Previous calls have had "St. Jude Hospital" caller ID.  This caller ID was "Unknown."  Was it a scam?  Maybe.  But bottom line--never make donations solicited via phone and you will be fine.

Yet another "middleman" begging for donations for different charities.  SCAMMER!

When they called, I plugged my phone into a nearby electrical outlet and heard the person on the other end of the line start screaming. Uh-oh.

Did not pick up and caller left no message.

Constant nuisance calls that NEVER leave a message...so tired of it!!!

Received call from this number a couple minutes ago.  Asked for me told him not home, then asked for husband, said not home.  Can I take message and said that this was Jason from Jay Seklow (I believe that is how you spell it - sorry if not correct spelling) and that they will call back.  No other message was left.

Called left no msg. I am on do not call list !

Got 3 calls today. I didn't pick up.  They left no message.  I  finally picked up and nothing on the other end. Blocked them. Bye bye [***]

Repeated calls from number, no message left

got call at 8:41 am,, Toll free  888-207-1231.. no message.

Called for charity "Habitat for Humanity" wanted donation, professional fund raisers. Very pushy and didn't want to take no for an answer. We do not give over the phone. This number called at least twice a day.

They called and hung up without leaving a message. I blocked the number on my phone. Ever since my mailbox was broken into, I have been getting calls like this.

Call from Donald Trump campaign contribution. Very courteous folks.
