Wi$eOne:NEVER Pay a Medical Bill in Full
These collection agencies are creeps; they pay pennies on the dollar for your debt. For instance, a patient that owes a $100 hospital bill will most likely have that debt sold by the hospital to these jerks for say, $20. The hospital releases the debt  to  this collection agency who then uses scare tactics and LIES to get you to pay the $100. They then pocket the $80 profit; hence, the reason they're so nasty.

Tell them you need everything in writing and that you will NEVER do business over the phone. DO NOT AGREE TO ANYTHING OVER THE PHONE. Then send a certified letter to them stipulating:

    *  I'll ONLY pay you $30 (or whatever) to SETTLE the debt

*I want the debt ERASED from my credit report--not just a note on your report saying it's paid (it would still stay on your credit report SEVEN years from the ***date you paid it***).

*NEVER offer to pay a debt that is more than four years old. If you agree to payments, it starts the seven year 'clock' ALL OVER AGAIN. so, for a debt was four years old, it would be off your credit report in in three years but if you agree to payments, the account is NEW again and you must wait a FULL 7 MORE years for release.

    *Get EVERYTHING in writing!

*Send any agreed upon ONE TIME payment via check with the note on the bottom: PAID IN FULL/FINAL PAYMENT AS AGREED UPON REDEMPTION.

    Medicredit.

They called and left a VM, and we called back promptly. At first they said they hadnt called us. Then they "found the file".  Then they wanted us to "verify" the social, DOB and Address "for security purposes" which of course we didn't do and never would.

Medicredit are purporting to collect a small bill that was paid in person in May of 2014, which we can document but they dont want to hear about it. They just want another payment.

Very badly organized, as well as rude and badly trained--working off a script.

Everything that is wrong with bill collectors.

you sound like you know a lot about fixing credit. Do you know about how to get things regarding salle mae and or other debt on credit. I am trying to get my credit clear and you sound very knowledgable of how to get that done without spending 100000 dollars. I am currently making on time payments to everyone. Didn't have a job for a while right after college and that killed my credit.

Relentless daily harassing calls about supposed doctor copay owed from office visit in the UPMC system. Never give these people any info or pay them directly.  They are frauds. If you actually do owe something,  pay the doctor directly. Block the calls. Never answer them.

Calls daily, many days more than one call. They leave a message that sounds as if it's cut off. All I hear on my voice mail is "Friday". When I call back, they want all my info, including FULL social security number before they'll release any of their info. When I ask for any info (without giving all my information), they refuse to tell me who I'm speaking with, company name, what the call is regarding...they won't give any details, or vague info for that matter. And to add salt to the very irritated wound, they're making these call to my cell, not my landline. I've received this same message and run around from other 800 based phone numbers. One company working with several phone numbers and Caller ID info. This has got to stop.

Get repeated calls and they start by asking personal questions and when I refuse to verify my phone number, address, etc.  They say they cannot tell me why they are calling without verifying.  I still refuse and they hang up.

They called here looking for my stepson, who apparently owes somebody money (spoiler alert: it's not the first time we've had calls about his finances), but since he hasn't lived here in almost 10 years and hasn't been our responsibility since he joined the army at 18, it's kind of a lost cause. I'm not really sure their call to us is legal, to be honest—after all, WE aren't the ones who owe the debt, and he doesn't live here—but since we don't have his contact info it's not like we could point them in the right direction even if we wanted to be helpful. Which, after reading the above, I can't say we do.

Here is a tip that people don't seem to realize:  When you owe money and it goes to a debt collector, it is required by law that the debt collector contacts you by mail before they contact you by phone.  If you receive calls regarding money you owe, and the company is unfamiliar to you or you have not received any correspondence from them, you can refuse to discuss and request that they not call you again.  NEVER, EVER give anyone your personal information over the phone, especially your social security number.  Collection agencies do not have this information nor are they supposed to, so if someone asks you for this information, you are dealing with a scammer.  Request that you receive correspondence from them for what they claim you owe and then you will contact them for payment.  They will most likely never call you again.  Also, pay directly to the party that you owe even if it's in the hands of a collection agency, unless they direct you otherwise.

I have no debt with the facility they claim to represent.  To verify this information I called the hospital myself who indeed confirmed that I have no debt with them. I get calls from "Medicredit" and "Spartan Financial" they both claim to represent the same Hospital.

Left voicemail saying you're this person press 1. If you aren't this person you can get this person the line press 2. If this the wrong bummer press 3. Sounds fishy based on the other comments here. Keep mind that many transcription jobs have been shipped overseas to countries with no HIPPA laws. They also sell your information to the lowest bidder, possibly these scammers being a bidder. Do NOT answer this number, block if you can.
