Told the caller from 888-233-9042 that I am on the National Do Not Call List and she told me it didn't matter. She told me she was calling from VISA/MC and as a preferred user she had an offer for me to make extra money. I asked her what card I had and she said it didn't matter. I told her that she should not have my information to call me and she read off my address and so she does have my information. I told her to take me off the list. And she started telling me that I needed to listen and that I didn't understand - all this while yelling at me. So I repeated three more time to take me off their list.

File a complaint on the Do Not Call Registry website. It probably won't help because they get so many complaints, nothing gets done. But, you'll feel better. It works for me...

Note: Telemarketers have begun using a rolling system that routes their calls through several phone number exchanges around the country -- not from where the call actually originates. They know that there are too many numbers to report to the FTC and FCC so there is no recourse against them. It's a form of telephone terrorism over which we have no control. Many of these calls originate outside the U.S. so they can't be traced or prosecuted. The Do Not Call Registry is useless in protecting us against these random calling methods.

Regarding the hangups when you answer: These are most likely robo-calls used to determine what time you are most likely to answer a call. That gives telemarketers an optimal time frame in which to call you. Best advice: DON'T ANSWER IF YOU DON'T RECOGNIZE THE NUMBER ON YOUR CALLER I.D.

These people are annoying idoits. they should all get sued for the harrassment they cause to us. Why can't anything be done about this? What good is the DO NOT CALL LIST?

I do not answer calls I don't recognize.  In three days, for example, I've received 25 calls from various area codes, this number calling 3 times.  They never leave a message.  I even went to the donotcall.com website and re-registered all our phone numbers hoping that would help.  Right around noon every day the phone calls start.  These people making these calls should have their phone cords cut and have harassment charges slapped on them!!!

I received 5 calls in less than 24 hours.  Didn't answer any of them.  Screened them all.

I got a name of the company last time they called me. It is J. W. Merchant Funding. I reported them to the National Do Not Call list. And I will file a new complaint every single time they call me. YOU SHOULD ALSO file your number with the N.D.C.L. and report them and any other unsolicited calls you receive. It DOES WORK but you have to be very vigilant with your complaint filing.

You have to report them each and every time they call. It takes just a minute or two and IT DOES WORK!
