Calling on behalf of AMERICAN EXPRESS.  Asked for the last 4 digits of my SSN, I said NO as I have no clue who you really are.  Asked for just my birth year and I provided.  Said I owed $10,000 on a American Express bill from 1999 and would settle for $5000.  Told him I had absolutely NO CLUE who you were and if i did owe a debt from 20 years ago, unfortunately the statue of limitations has passed over 3 times and do not call me unless you have valid information.  And to close, I have never had an AMEX.

Have been receiving numerous calls from American Express Global Collections- just let it go to voicemail.  Received a letter from them today.  It's from American Express, P.O. Box 360001, Ft. Lauderdale, FL, 33336-0001.  I received this letter on 9/5 and they want me to pay settlement offer by 8/15 LOL.  I've never owned an American Express Card.  Be aware though... I just cleared up a scam on my Credit Karma account that was from a Credit Collector that has thousands of complaints online and said I owed my cable company over $300 dollars.  It took my credit for a dive.  Got it cleared up - but they managed to wreck my credit for a while.  These scammers are contacting me again just months later... this is ridiculous.  We need more laws to protect the consumer.  Don't give them ANY personal information!!

Rec'd a call and when I answered, there was a message that "no representative was available" and asked me "to hold."  That's a clue that it's a scam.  The scammer is using a random robocaller and just waits until some unsuspecting person answers, and not a voice mail.   The scammer is alerted that there's a potential victim on the telephone line who the scammer can swindle.

Agreed about the laws.  But they need to be enforced.   BTW - I've seen the APPLE SCAM say to call a toll-free number 850-xxx-xxxx that is not a toll-free number.  Also, whenever you call a toll-free number, your phone number does go through, even if it is blocked since they pay for the call.

Man from India said he was from American Express and kept asking for my name so they could tell me why they were calling me.  I asked why would he be calling anyone and he repeatedly asked for my name.  I've never had an American Express account.  I hung up and they continued to call until I blocked their number.
