Its a huge scam.  they are all CLOSERS working in a small office in California.  they claim to be from the law offices of john edwards, when in fact, no such office exists as they are claiming.  My attorney checked it out for me and confirmed for me.

I got another call yesterday from the "County Process Service Division" asking whether i was going to be available between 9am and 4pm as the sheriff is going to come to my door and serve me papers for the lawsuit.

I laughed and said that I've gotten this call already 3 other times and the sheriff has yet to come to my door yet.

I asked the guy what county he was calling from and he said Queens County, NY.  So i asked him where the court house is in Queens County, and of course he didn't know.

First of all, since when does the sheriff have an outside process serving company call you to confirm you're going to be home to serve you?   If they are using a process serving company, then they aren't using the sheriff.  its 1 or the other.  They never call ahead and warn you that they are coming, they just show up at your door step.  if they really did warn you, then no one would ever get served.  People would leave the house.

Then i get a call from some mental midget asking to settle the case, i argue with them and say that there is no case since there is no lawsuit filed.

So i tell them to go ahead and file a lawsuit against me, because if they did then i would know who i am actually dealing with here.  They are NEVER going to file a lawsuit against me because they are working so very hard to scare me into paying my debt, and hiding their true identity, I.E. the fake names, the fake john edwards name, the fake global bureau of recovery name that they are using on the letterhead, that they will do what they need to do to protect that.  so by filing a lawsuit, then can no longer hide.

so, i welcome a lawsuit as then i would know who is suing me and i can counter sue for extortion.

which is what they are committing by telling me that the sheriff is going to come to my door if i dont go to the bank within 2 hours to deposit money into their account.

that's extortion. and  yes, i have proof of this.

Just tell these idiots when they call you that you are recording the call for quality asurance purposes, and if they say that they dont want to be recorded, just say that you arent able to shut it down, sorry.  they'll hang up and not call you back.

they dont want to be recorded say all the lies that they are saying, as then you would have proof.

I actually do record the calls when they come in for 2 reasons that legally allow me to and can be used in court.  so my extortion case is ready to go.

By the way, the real company name that they work under, and its the legal name is HAVEN ACQUISITIONS 513-381-5324

This is the name that they are working hard to protect.

They do not give up ... and they are very deceiving, they leave a message (the called ID shows
"private")...then something like" this is (whoever) calling about a complaint that was filed against
you with my office...if you would like to know more about pending litigation you will need to call
(888#) with case (whatever)."..just don't return the call....they are scammers and have a
believable looking website.  Anyone with a bit of computer know how can put together a website.
The Consumer law center in the LA area (licensed in all 50) may be able to do something
    for you.

    Hi Everyone,

As I was once a debt collector (we followed all debt collection rules), I can tell you some important info.  Any LEGITIMATE debt recovery agency will provide you full WRITTEN documentation of the debt you owe as well as how you can pay that debt.  They will also tell you their company information, phone numbers and addresses.  Due to the distressed economy a lot of illegal debt collection practices have sprung into action.  Debts are not criminal matters, they're civil and most local governments will not get involved with them. Recently these illegal companies have been purchasing debts that are past their collection date.  There is a statute of limitations on debt.  Any debt past a certain age, cannot be collected on.  Never believe a company that will not provide you with their information or that won't send written confirmation of a debt.  It is a scam.  They can lie and say anything they want, but it is illegal and against FTC rules for debt recovery companies, which means they are attempting to collect a debt illegally.  There have been companies that say they're prosecuting you in your county or that an officer is on their way or even that they're an officer themselves.  This is a known scare tactic of illegal debt collection companies.  The best advice is not to respond to the calls at all.  First, you are allowed to tell them that you cannot receive collection calls at work.  Once you've told them this, they legally can no longer call you at work.  Now, as most of these companies are practicing illegally, they may continue to call, just realize that's a good indicator that the collections they're attempting are illegal.  Do NOT admit that you owe anything, and certainly don't make a payment because once a new payment is made they can legitimately re-age the debt and ding your credit again.  I know this can be a scary experience and more should be done to prosecute these companies, but they tend to change names and locations quickly to avoid prosecution themselves.  Just delete their phone messages, hang up on them and avoid speaking with them at all costs.  It's the best method of protecting yourself.  If you have any information on them you can file a complaint with the FTC for illegal practices.  Amusingly, if you know an attorney and have the information you can legitimately sue for illegal debt recovery and win a maximum of $1,000, which tends to be more than the debt they're trying to collect in most cases.  Obviously most won't take it that far, but it's a nice option to have!

I hope this helps provide some piece of mind for everyone.  Have a good day!

I thank you for the information. Now, I have a question..there is an old debt that the sheriff is trying to serve papers to me for.  There was a card left at my gate telling me to contact the sheriff's so they could serve papers (for this debt)  I did not respond..my name was not even on this card.  Yesterday, the sheriff, or deputy, whichever, came to my door~he had to come past my locked gates to get on my porch.  My dogs raised cain..but, I did not answer.  What happens now.?.I read where they usually do three attempts then send the stuff back to the company that initiated it.  Unfortunately, I cannot pay this..I am on disability now, and do not have the resources to pay.  Do you have any options for me?  Right now, I have elected to lay low until I feel it is safe.  I don't take calls either, although there have not been many of those lately. Thank you for your time!  Georgia

When someone calls trying to collect a debt from you that you never owed THEM, don't pay it.  Make them send you copies that show YOUR SIGNATURE proving that you owe them the debt.  IF THEY CAN'T PROVIDE PROOF that you incurred the debt, YOU DON'T OWE THEM ANYTHING AND THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO except scare you.

I once had a debt collector call me demanding payment on a debt.  I did owe the debt they were trying to collect, BUT NOT TO THEM.  I told them they (the debt collector) would get nothing UNTIL I had signed certified letter FROM THE COMPANY I owed the debt to showing that the bank now owned the debt.  And I also told them I needed a signed certified letter FROM THE BANK showing that the debt collector was authorized to collect the debt.  Basically, I refused to pay the debt collector ANYTHING until I had a paper trail from the creditor company to the debt collector. I never got the paper trail and the debt collector never called back.

I have since paid off the debt to to company that I incurred the debt with.  I have no idea if the bank ever released the debt or if the bank owned the debt in the first place.

    Becky
I just got a call (on caller id showed private number and as 000-000-0000) saying this message is from John Randall and they are trying to verify the property address. They need a call back at 888-517-0246. Think GBR has changed their phone number. I have never heard of someone calling to verify an address.

If they are legimate, why would you resort to disgusing phone numbers, etc.

I had the same call as Becky, "a message from John Randall" trying to verify my property address.  I checked my credit report, there's nothing outstanding.  I did have a case of identity theft a few years ago, wondering if it's tied to that?  I also had a threatening call a couple of months ago, telling me to call the same number (888-517-0244), or they WILL REACH ME AT WORK.  Well, they never showed, which makes me think it was a scam.  Anyone know how we can block these kinds of calls?

This company is full of sh_t!  Their records are so incomplete...they are just like ambulance chasers.  I don't know how they sleep at night...  I have no debts and I would bet all to my name they have my number in error, but I wouldn't know because they won't leave a message or they are nasty to speak with...  when they call they do not leave message... I call them back and get a request to leave a message... So I do... "This is Dr. Smith, I am a local proctologist, I would like to speak with the as_hole who hasn't the courtesy to leave a message for phone number (___) ___ - ____."

I call the "Corporate Office" speak with a female who calls me a liar and tells me to hang up.  When I call back I am threatened with a call to the police for the phone calls...

Mobililty - how do you forget about an $8500 debt?  You sure you don't work for them... maybe spreading propaganda better to pay them...  Such a joke...  This whole collector thing is a joke...

its a scam replies to concern
I received a msg from a restricted caller too.  The man said his name was Robert Smith and he was from the Private Processing Division.  He said that the call was to get in contact with me to send a uniformed officer or processor out to my place of residence or work place to provide me with a legal summons.  They were making three attempts to contact me, and after the third time they will classify me in the courts as a failure to be served.  The number they gave me 888-871-3957.  He then gave me a case number to call back with.  He also said it was a very time sensitive matter, and this was their second attempt.
I looked up this place on the internet and there is no business with that name, and the only thing I saw were reports that it was a scam.  The thing that had me question it was he used my maiden name.  I've been using my married name for over 12 yrs.
