I received a text about" frogs blinking "when they do something  etc. I did not reply to cancel and called AT&T. I had AT&T look at my bill and I then remembered last month I recovered the same text from the same outfit. That time I did reply "stop". In doing so, the company charged me $9.99. AT&T gave me a "purchase blocker", and the AT&T rep told me hundreds of complaints are coming in. In doing some snooping around, it seems congress refused to pass a bill or two with cell phone numbers and texts, as some in congress felt that it was too much regulation.  I hope the members of congress who would not support some sort of consumer protection for cell phone users, have a healthy heart, as on would have a heart attact after reading their cell phone bill...AT&T were very good in helping me.

Can you let me know how you contacted the FCC? I went online to complain and could not find anything for unsolicited texts.

Also, why is Verizon telling people to text STOP and AT&T says not to do that? I did not sign up for any of this and can't believe it is not illegal. It is such a scam - send an unsolicited text and make you pay $10 for it? How is that not illegal?!

I've been spammed.  Calle AT&T.  Sure enough it was mBlox (http://www.mblox.com/) and they had charged me $9.99 for a subscription I didn't order.
If you catch it quick enough, AT&T will block their payment to mBlox and refund you the charges.  AT&T also blocked this company from charging me again and put a four digit pin in place so next time someone attempts to charge my account (legally or illegally) they will need this pin to complete the transaction.
Net:  mBlox is a jammer and is hitting people with charges without them knowing it.
DO NOT REPLY TO THEIR SPAM MESSAGES.  IT WILL DO YOU NO GOOD.  CALL YOUR CARRIER.

This is a huge SCAM.  Call your provider and put a block on all premium text services.  Had the Verizon guuy call this number and the IQ rep would not disclose their physical location.  Any business that does not reveal their physical location means they are running an illegal operation.

I have been getting these about a week. Checked my phone bill and they charged me $9.99. Called AT&T and it turns out I was also charged last month though didn't start receiving these until 10 May. AT&T blocked the "service" and refunded my nearly $20.

Agent said there are two ways they get your number: 1) if you've ever called into text vote for "American Idol," etc., which I've never done, they have access to your number; 2) she said it's most likely through a random number generator.

If you use AT&T, call 611 (customer service) and ask them to refund the charges (they are very accomodating) and ask them to put parental controls on your phone that will elminate unauthorized charges (you will be given a PIN to authorize legit charges).

When asked, it was explained to me that the company that does this (yes, same as earlier posts: Mobile Media in California) can start charging us without our authorization unless we send them a text stating stop.  Of course, being a cynic, sending them a text only confirms this is a good number...

So, for AT&T, get the free charge blocker and you are done.

Call them or text back STOP or they'll keep sending you messages. Regardless, they will most likely charge you $9.99 for the first month but go through your wireless provider to obtain a refund. I have Verizon and they put a block on my phone so I won't be receiving spam like this in the future. Also, file a complaint with the FCC (http://www.fcc.gov/complaints) Form 1088G. It takes about 5 minutes but it's the only way to make spammers stop what they're doing. The name of the company sending the IQ Power Trivia Alerts is called Mobile Media, 9170 Willshire Blvd, Suite 450, Beverly Hills, CA 90210. Good luck!

THese people are terrible. I never used their service and was told that my number was registered from using something called Master QUiz that I not only never used but never even heard of. I filed a complaint with the FCC.... this is the only way that these people will be stopped. I am sure that in this economy the people working at Mobile Media, 9170 Willshire Blvd, Suite 450, Beverly Hills, CA 90210 do not need my hard earned dollars to fund their Beverly Hills Lifestyle.

Just happened to me this morning, same company with three text messages back to back. I called AT&T and they put free blocks on all three of my cell phones.

In speaking with the customer care agent I also discovered my mother's cell phone which is also on my plan has been getting charged $9.99 a month the last two monts from one of these companies.

AT&T reversed all the charges and added the blocks for free, where I can only sign up for premium message services after I enter a pin for those services. Which of course I never would.

These companies are criminal. Do not reply to their messages. Don't wait and see if it shows up on your bill, call your customer service ASAP because you've likely already been charged.

why, how, when, where in the name of all do these jerks come from?  We, my wife, daughter, and I continue to recieve crap from outta the blue on our cel phones & some appear on our T-Mobile bills.  Are the crooks in Washington, D.C. in cahoots with the FCC to get bonuses or some kind of monetary rewards for all that,"Falls through the cracks"?  I don't know about the rest of you folks, but I'm ready to replace all politicians in this country and get back to the United States like was her in the 1700's.  No seals on food containers, no gun totting anywhere, income tax was not around yet, etc. ...!

To forward this to AT&T spam department, open the spam message and at the top, press the 'edit' button. This will open an editor...click the circle beside one of the messages and the option to forward will be at the bottom right. Press it and enter the word 'spam' in the 'To' line and hit send.

Quick update...after pulling up our detailed bill (I'm on a family plan with my brother), it turns out that they have been charging us twice each month for the past 3 months on my phone, not his. I had been getting texts from two different SMS numbers but they both had the same 888 customer service number, so I assumed it was just one bill. My brother overlooked it thinking that I had just gone over my data plan. He will go by the AT&T store tomorrow to see what he can get done.

Call your cell phone provider and have them cancel it. I never signed up for anything, they are spammers. Report them to the government spam website. AT&T puts a free purchase blocker on your line so you don't have to deal with these low life's anymore. The name of the complaint is complete SMS solution global

If you get text messages from 23918 or 74248 telling you to call 888-890-6150, DO NOT CALL that number.  Call your own telephone company.  You have probably been "subscribed" to a scam service that sends you these messages.  My wife's cellphone service provider said they removed that subscription and will block anything like this future. (I hope this is true.) I had to ask for a supervisor, because the customer service rep did not know what to do aside from blocking all text messages (not what we wanted at all).

Recieved text message from 957-63 with "Fun Facts". I did not sign up for this service or provide my cell number for any service. Then received a text stating that BrainBuster Fun Facts has billed @ $9.99/mo. So I replied STOP. Will check it out with my phone compnay tomorrow to make sure there is nothing on my bill.

Started getting these texts on my AT&T phone - coming from 251-84.  At the end of every stupid little "interesting fact" it says "For HELP call 18888906150".  We never signed up for this, but have started getting an additional $10 charge on our phones every month.  AT&T won't take care of it in store and we've been unsuccessful getting it taken care of online.  Going to try calling their customer service tomorrow.  I'd like to know how some company can just start implementing this service on our phones for $10/month, per phone, when we didn't authorize it??  Obviously reading some of these other posts it's not just limited to AT&T, but seems to be occurring on other services as well.
