Claimed to be calling from Scotiabank. Scotiabank does not call from these types of numbers, they use (866) or (800) area codes etc. Scammers.

Ya, well you call. They will ask you to confirm your name, DOB, Postal Code, then place you on silence holds and then come back... asking you for all the lines of business you have -- Then place you on hold.. in silence... then come back to say "Go to your local branch" -- Unreal statics..

Not BNS - SCAM - Asking you questions - upon questions and loads of chatter in the background and no Manager to speak with - just some scam agent taking your information. The funny part is.. we're all jack [***] broke - so stealing what I dunno..

Calling relentlessly 4-5 times a day, even on weekends, claiming to be Scotiabank and asking about a previous business we had. It even pops up as suspected spam and they never leave a voicemail. Tried calling the number back and the call won't even go through, it immediately ends and says "invalid number".

I called the number and got, "Thank you for calling Scotia Bank.  For service in English press 1."  It then said the same thing in French except to press 2.  I pressed 1 and got, "Please know that this call may be monitored or recorded for quality assurance."  I then spoke to a representative who, when asked how one can be certain this is Scotia Bank, said, "We use many different numbers and different divisions have their own numbers.  But if our customer is in doubt they can use the website to get into their account or they can call the 800 number."  He said they call customers for a variety of reasons including fraud alerts, missed payments, and to offer special services.  He also said that they do not ask for personal financial information.  So here's the thing.  Any number can be spoofed, even a legitimate one.  If you get a call from this number it may be Scotia Bank.  So CALL the NUMBER ON YOUR CARD or the PUBLISHED NUMBER ON THE WEBSITE.  Don't give any information to someone who calls you regardless of their legitimacy.  Always initiate the call yourself and never ignore possible fraud alerts.  Scammers win by getting you to ignore such alerts.

That said, I don't know why you said you got "invalid number" response to your call.  Perhaps you dialed incorrectly.  I called twice just to see if I got the same response.  I did.
