Report a phone call from 02814767868 and help to identify who and why is calling from this number.
- NJBTrying to get me to answer personal details as I entered a competition. I didnt give them anything, then they confirmed my address from 5 years ago. I have an inherent mistrust of phone cold-calling.
- SPI got a call from this number (02814767868) asking for the previous occupants of the house. They moved out 5 years ago. I think it is connected to timeshares as I have had numerous calls and junk mail relating to timeshare ownership and holidays. The last occupants had a timeshare.
- D GibbonsKeep getting calls from 02814767868. The caller just hangs up when I ask who's calling & say that the person they ask for moved out about 7 years ago.
- JMBThis number just rang me. I screen all unknown numbers by letting them go to the answer machine so they hung up. I will flag it as a Junk Call number so I know next time.
- JGGCalled this pm by female called Joan with Indian sub-continent accent posing as 'a research student doing my phD' calling for 'The Consumer Research Centre' and wanting 'three minutes of your time' to answer some marketing questions. 'But first, would you confirm your name and date of birth . . .'
NO WAY SHOULD YOU EVER DISCLOSE SUCH INFORMATION TO A TELEPHONE CALLER YOU DO NOT KNOW!
Filibustered (say again ... who? ... bad line et al) while I switched call thru to some rather sophisticated eqpment I use and the result was a quite acceptable pick up of general call centre activity - all with Indian accents.
There is NO such organisation in the UK with the name given. There is, however, a genuine such company in Canada. This was not from them (needless to say).
The caller ID was, as usual, 02814767868.
This is among dozens of UK terrestrial numbers which were allocated some time ago to I**, according to my telecoms informant. I** have a very large facility in Bombay / Mumbai which provides helpline support for firms such as HP and Epson, and it seems they also jobbed off some capacity to several scumbag call centre outlets.
Unfortunately, I coulden't get any further with chatting up Miss Muckarjee because for some extraordinary reason, an extremely high-pitched and loud whistle went down the line, and she hung up . . .
I've sent a list of various of these now fictional UK terrestrial numbers which are being used to pester us to the Information Commissioner. The response has been total indifference. Yet more proof (if any was needed) that they're not just toothless, but a gumless quango.- Caller: 'Consumer Research Centre'
- JBI have just had a call from them. When I answered there was noone at the other end. If they call back I will be ready for them now. I use a dog whistle for my two dogs. See how they like it down the phone. It is very annoying to answer a call when you are busy and noone there.
- IrritatedThey've called me three times today, which is interesting because I am TPS registered and don't accept calls from numbers that are untraceable. I have a dog whistle, so the next time they phone ....
Also wanted to thank whoever set this thread up. It's helpful in dealing with twonky organisations like this. - BeckyThey've called 3 times since 7.00 last night. We are also TPS.
- mandyindian call centre calls mostly by someone calling themselves anya but if you ask who they are they hang up theyve called me 4 times today and as a nurse working night shifts this is ceasing to become annoying and staring to become dangerous they need to be stopped
- RobinI have had a dozen or so "silent" calls from this number over the last few days - thankfully mostly during daylight hours! My phone company (BT) say they can do nothing as the number is "unrecognised" and the calls probably originate from abroard. If no one can find a solution the phone system will eventually go the same way as emails - 98% junk!
- SarahNumber called and hung up when answer phone clicked in - no message. I am also TPS registered. It is so helpful to have a site such as this to understand what is happening and ideas of how to deal with it, now where is that old whistle I had...
- TIMI had a phone call this pm no one there.I said hello atleast 3 times still no reply.Pressed 1471 and it was the below number.
- TracyThis number has just called. I didn't answer it as I didn't recognise it. After reading this information I decided to block the number. Strangely it was listed as the last number to call. I had to block it manually (as opposed to "block last number").
- TracySorry that should of said WASN'T listed as last number to call.
- A YorkDoing a consumer survey. Oh yeah? And if I express interest in any of the companies they will contact me. I said, as I don't want to be contacted this would compromise my answers. Before I could finish, they hung up.
- MikeThis number called me twice today, both times the phone stopped ringing before I could answer, 2-3 rings. Pretty annoying because I'd like to tell them to get lost.
- NGM's GhostI got a call from this Northern Irish CLI (02814767868) today - Monday 9th March 2009 at 4.25pm
It was from an outfit calling itself The Consumer Research Centre who wanted to ask me a load of questions to confirm I lived at this address and postcode, whether I was a property owner or not and also my age group and income. They also asked when various insurance policies were due for renewal.
After this they then proceeded to ask a load of very specific questions including if would I be interested in joining the RSPB bird protection charity and would I be prepared to make a donation to pay for the training of a new guide dog for the blind (i.e. they were clearly getting the data to supply to RNIB) as well as whether I had any loans or not and whether I had a will or not at present (they named a will writing company they wanted to contact me).
As a campaigner against TPS abuse I played along with all this to try and find out what their game was but when I asked at the end of her questions (I said no to being contacted for various further sales activities throughout) to speak to a supervisor about their deliberate abuse of my TPS registration the lady calling cut me off. The lady calling spoke with a combination of Far East and strong American accent (the Phililippines was run by the USA for the first half of this century and everyone speaks some English there like India) and when I asked if she was based there she admitted she was.
Three or four months ago I also got a load of calls that when I picked up that initially sounded like a real person who said they were calling from The Consumer Research Centre but then at this point each time the line went dead. So they were in fact Silent Calls where the equipment could not field a call centre person with an automated announcement on the front. All those calls three or four months ago came up Number Unavailable but today they used a fake Northern Irish CLI of 02814767868, presumably to get round services like "Choose To Refuse" and people who block calls without a CLI. So they seem hell bent on deliberately breaking TPS rules and contacting everyone who will object to hearing from them. This shows a very abusive mentality by the people runing this call centre operation. Yet they are collecting the data for sales operations by apparently respectable UK based bodies like the RSPB and RNIB.
You should report calls from this number to Ofcom on their website section for reporting Silent Calls at www.ofcom.org.uk/complain/landline/silent/?itemid=284912 and if you are TPS registed you should also log a complaint with the Telephone Preference Service at http://complaints.tpsonline.org.uk/Consumer/
You may also want to try and file a complaint with the Information Commissioner at www.ico.gov.uk/complaints/privacy_and_electronic_communications.aspx although they may not accept it if they argue the call was from overseas, although the fact that a UK CLI was used and the call was clearly made on behalf of UK based companies makes it more difficult for them to argue this.- Caller: The Consumer Research Centre

- MorsemanYep, another person who has had a call from 02814 767868.
It went througth to my answer machine, as I don't tend to answer the house phone when working from home, and they hung up.
I'm TPS as well, but if these scumbags are outside the UK I guess there's little to be done about them.
Someone up the thread said it was from NI. Actually, when you look in the list of NI identifiers, the number '14' after the 028 do not exist. Which lead me to Google the number and find this thread... - T 'n' TI have received two calls from 02814 767868 on the 12th and 13th March but only detected them via '1471'. However since the calls, I have had people Emailing me as they could not get through to me on the phone on the eve of the 12th....one from Northern Ireland!! Is this a coincidence or is this company(?) somehow blocking the line/network, especially for outside UK calls....inc Rep of Ireland... and (mobile?) calls from Northern Ireland (028 **)? I have today found a Withheld Number on '1471', so it appears calls originating in the UK are OK. Has anyone else experienced the same?
Also related to Northern Ireland/Rep of Ireland.....if someone in NI is using a mobile is there a situation when the caller to this mobile would require the Rep of Ireland code 00353 as well as the number?? Is it when the mobile has been bought in the Republic. The number starts 86***. TIA.
