- Kitty| 8 repliesI have been charged £4.60 on the 11th July I contacted my network provider who said I had sent a text to 60199 when I know I didn't and no one has access to my handset, so I have asked them to put a block on premium numbers now this morning I have received another one being charged another £4.60 I contacted my network again to query and got told that I had subscribed to receive weekly messages from this 60199, I have told them again that I did not subscribe and did not send any text but they won't have it I have to pay the cost £9.20, I have text them to stop so I do hope thats the end of it.

- gt| 2 repliesthis happened to me today-downloaded 'free battery upgrade' app. time of downloads corresponds with a text sent which i can see on my account, but i definitely did not send. then got 3 texts at 9pm saying i've joined 'my tech alerts' at £4.50 pw......
- GB replies to gtExactly the same for me... I text STOP to it to un subscribe but I'm now not sure that was a wise move. It was the battery app too, I uninstalled it
- Jose Carvalho replies to gtSame thing happened to me and I downloaded same app (free battery upgrade). I guess it's some kind of scam but what doesn't make sense is that the same shortcode it's used bye a third party service from Orange (My Weather Alerts Service). I guess it's time to complain with PhonepayPlus and maybe with Ofcom and have a talk with Orange.
- T1same thing happened to me as gt. downloaded battery upgrade application then got 3 texts. sent a stop text, lets hope it works.
- Oh Great| 7 repliesI am another victim of this today, exactly the same thing happened to me after downloading this damn battery upgrade scam, three texts etc. Hope there is a solution to this.

- Murdock replies to Oh Great| 6 repliesI uninstalled the app and i sent STOP to 60199. The app is not in the Android Market anymore or at least I can't find it. I don't understand how this app was allowed to be in the market anyway, big FAIL.
- istanbrook replies to Murdock| 5 repliesI too downloaded the battery upgrade advertised from the Angry Birds game on my Android phone. I have had 3 texts this evening from the same number and been told that I have now subscribed to a list and will be charged £4.60 per message (as above). I'm going to call Vodafone, my carrier. I notice there's an Angry Birds update tonight too.
- Murdock replies to istanbrook| 4 repliesDoes anyone still have the app installed in the phone? If so, can anyone find the name of the author and post the name here?
- noddyssis replies to Murdock| 3 repliesI have been a victim of this this evening too. App is not showing in my apps in market place but is still on my phone and I can't get rid of it. Have text stop so hope no charge will b made. Anybody any idea how I can delete it off my phone if it's not showing in apps?
- Murdock replies to noddyssis| 2 repliesCan you find and help or an about inside the app to check the author names?
To delete the app try this: Go to the applications screen and press the menu button choose edit, now the apps should have a minus on the top left corner and you just need to press the minus to uninstall/delete the app. This should work if you are using a samsung with touchwiz. - noddyssis replies to Murdock| 1 replyThanks for your help. I have a HTC and have managed to eventually uninstall it. I'm afraid I could not find any other details. All that opened was a screen to kill apps and no means of finding additional info. Sorry. Was keen to get it deleted from my phone!
- Murdock replies to noddyssisNo worries, at least you got ride of that thing.
- Murdock| 1 replyI advise all of the people affected by this scam to contact your provider because I just did and after explaining the matter they agreed to credit me back £5 to cover for the charges incurred.
I also think it would be a good idea to complain to the entity that in name of Ofcom takes cares of this matters (PhonepayPlus) on this Web page: http://www.phonepayplus.org.uk/For-The-Public/Make-a-complaint.aspx- Caller: ShortCode 60199

- Oh Great replies to MurdockAfter following the advice of others on here, I phoned o2 who initially were not that helpful but on my 2nd call to them and a different operator were much more obliging and helpful once I fully explained the situation. They said they would on this occasion refund me the amount and send me a form to complain about the company. Also I was advised and given the company's number to try and resolve the issue.
After several attempts and only hearing an answer phone message I finally left a message and to be fair I received a call almost straight back.
After explaining the situation which I guess they had already heard a hundred times already I was refunded via paypal.
So although I am still dubious as to the method used in getting this damn subscription stuck on my phone in the 1st place at least they do refund you once you have politely pointed out you didn't ask for the thing in the 1st place.
I hope others caught by this can resolve it as easily. - CookieGot a text from them. It is definitely the battery thing. Just delete, don't open if you get something from them.
