I have recently been having loads of calls from these people and always the same - pick up call and phone goes dead.

An earlier comment was for the company in Sunderland - I am just placing this to say that the information given is correct - it is a company called 2Touch, based at Camberwell Way, Doxford Technology Park, Sunderland SR9 9XZ.
They describe themselves on their website (www.2touch.co.uk)as 'the customer lifestyle management company' - whatever that means!

I called the Sunderland number and asked the lady who answered whether they own the 0800 408 2680 number and she said that they do have that number.
It sounded like she gets a lot of these calls a day from people who have been harassed!

Just do as the previous information suggested and call them and ask them to take your number off of their list.
She said they would and so I shall keep a watch on my caller ID in the near future.

Calls twice per night then hangs up when you answer

I have also been called every day at several times, including in the evening when I think it is unacceptable to receive business calls! I have been asked who my gas and electric provider is and I referred them to my landlord as I refuse to give my details.  The rest of the calls have been nuisance as the caller hangs up.  It's really out of line.

has called my mothers number 6 times today, my mum is ill with cancer and is waiting for a call from the hospital to say when they have a place for her for an operation, i want to know where these people are and i want them to know what they are doing to my mum!

The system random calls loads of numbers at one time and as soon as one answers the other calls 'drop off'. That is why the line is dead when you pick it up. You are not charged for the call, it is not a scam and is more of a nuisance than any thing else. If you contact them at the above given number in Sunderland they will remove your number.

Don't bank on it ! - I've had loads of calls since they said they would put a note on their computer saying "Do not ring" - I've updated my blog on this issue today.

Just rang 0191 5257000 and she took me off the call list for that number straight away.

I'm registered with TPF, but these people keep doing silent calls, hoping I'll call back, often several times a day, I've took Johns advice and reported them to Ofcom

Additionally, it is worth noting that this BT, Setanta Sports, EDF or any of the other organisations mentioned are not directly responsible for the calls and are most likely not aware of the fact that 2Touch are behaving in this way.

This number calls in excess of 10 times a day, I ignore it now. Might take a leaf out of Keith's book and report it to police - oh hang on, I'll just tell my husband as he's a copper!!!

I'm on the TPS but have had calls every day this week so I've just reported this number to OfCom and would suggest everyone posting here does likewise.  Only takes a few minutes on OfCom's website and hopefully a sufficient number of complaints will get these jokers hauled over the coals. Very annoying and it especially riles me when I hear of people expecting important calls but instead get these clowns wasting their time.

w/c 18th August 2008. This number has phoned me everyday this week. When I answer the call, its as if someone is listening, then hangs up. Its very annoying.

Its actually Setanta Sports or at least thats who rang me off that number last week.

This number is calling me 3 times a day once in the morning then mid afternoon and then early evening. I ignore my landline most of the time anyway as I can't stand the double glazing guys or the sales weasles from BT so I'm not answered the call yet but its getting a bit old already. Who are they?

I called the number posted by Kerry. They were perfectly polite and said they would remove my number. I suggest you call them before getting any more worked up.

I have recieved calls from this number and i am in ireland,can i still complain to the OFcom

I have received on average three calls a day from this number for the last week, each time there is silence for a few seconds then the call disconnects. I have raised a complaint with Ofcom and will be contacting 2Touch directly, as recommended by previous contributors.
