I have also been suffering these phone calls from iQor for months, now up to 8 times a day! originally from a disputed amount with ebay, which has been sorted and paid in full to ebay, but they still call and are very rude and abrupt every call. I have now reported them to the authorities and named and shamed the companys involved to BBC's watchdog which i highly recomend as the more complaints they recieve the chances are something will get done about this.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing but I knew nothing about these crooks till I had a phone call from them.

    Saturday23rd Oct 2010 approx. 8.47am (1471= 08451550456) 01772 832 182

I received a phone call while I was still in bed from a woman who asked for me by name saying she “had been asked by ebay to contact her” She introduced herself to me by saying that she worked for IQOR Debt Collecting Agency. She said she had been asked by ebay to recover a debt owed to them by me.

I said what debt, I don’t have any debt.

She said you have been sent invoices many times by ebay and have not settled the required amount and I have been asked to get this settled immediately as it is already incurring admin. fees.

I repeated that I don’t have any debt and I have not been contacted by ebay how much are you talking about.

She stated a figure of around £170 or £179. but as I was in bed I couldn’t write this down.

She then added more fees of £24 to go on top.

She asked for my address, post code, house number, d.o.b. and username on ebay. and I gave them to her

I said so how long are you saying this debt has been building up.

She said well on 21st July 2010 you were told by ebay that you owed £71.94. and again in April and it’s been building up since then. It needs to be settled now.

I said I have no idea what you are talking about and I don’t know who you are.
I said I know nothing about this and anyway, if there was a problem I would have heard from paypal as ebay fees are paid by standing order from them.

She said not necessarily, this could have been caused by any little thing somewhere such as a credit card not being updated.

I said everything is in order and I do not owe ebay any money. But I will log on and sort it out.

She said you won’t be able to log on because you have been suspended.

I said that I was unwilling to give her my card details so how could this be resolved if I couldn’t log on to ebay.

She said “the only other way is for you to see a solicitor and take it to court, but by then more fees will have mounted up. If you settle it now I can get you up and running on ebay straight away”.

I paid by the only card I have which is a debit card. £200.12. She gave me a ref. no. and an authorisation no.

I asked for her name and contact details which she gave me. The number being: 01772 832 182

I immediately logged on to ebay and checked my account. I had not been in debt and my invoices for the past months are as follows:

    Oct £0.00
    July no invoice issued
    May £0.00
    April £1.60

I rang my bank and they put a stop on my account but the money had already gone through.

I rang the person back at IQOR and told her that my ebay account had been in order and she should never have asked for money from me. She said there was nothing she could do about it. It would be down to ebay to sort any problems out.

I then rang ebay and they confirmed that they employ IQOR to collect debts.
I went through all the details of the call from IQOR.

She (ebay) said that my account was in order and I had never had any debt with them and I had not been suspended.
She also said that they had not sent instructions to IQOR to collect a debt from me and that they had not passed my details to them.

I said how did they know my name and number.

She said it sounds fraudulent and that she would speak to her manager.
She did this and then put me through to him.

I went through it all again and he agreed that I have not owed them money.
I asked if it was their practice to sell debts on and he said no they didn’t do that.
He said my details had never been passed to IQOR and he thought this could be fraudulent and he would be taking the case further and would ring me on Mon 24th or Tue 25th Oct.

I rang IQOR and was told that the lady was on the phone and would ring me back.

    After 30mins I rang again.

I was told she was on the phone and would ring me back.

I said no it’s ok, she had already promised to do that and hadn’t so I would just leave a message.
I said to tell her that I was ringing because I had spoken to ebay and they had confirmed that I had had no debt and was never suspended and so I would now be making a formal complaint to the police and trading standards, and that I was ringing to ask if there was any further comment that she wanted to make before I did this.

The lady asked me to hold and she would speak to the original lady.

I could hear the conversation that they then had and heard the lady refer to me as a “lying bitch”.

When the lady came back to the phone I told her what I had overheard and that I didn’t need her to call me back as I would leave it with the police to handle.

She said oh she will call you back, “She wasn’t talking about you she was talking about someone else”.

Approx: 15mins later I had a call from a man at IQOR. He said he was from ebay.

He said he was ringing to help and hoped he could sort out the confusion.

I recognised the noise in the background and asked if he was from IQOR and he said yes.

I said there is no confusion. I never owed ebay any money, they never asked you to collect money from me and I have never been suspended from ebay.

He asked the security questions again and asked if I had another email address

I said no. Are you saying that the email address is wrong then.

He said it starts the same but ends differently.

I said so why did the lady continue to demand payment. Why didn’t she go back to check with ebay.

He said that they just act upon the instructions given to them by ebay.
He said I need you to give me the name of the man at ebay who has now agreed that ebay have made a mistake.

I said no one at ebay has said they have made a mistake. Ebay says that you have never been given any information about me and you have never been told to recover a debt from me.

He said what is your username on ebay.

I said don’t you already know that if you say I owed money.

He said no, they don’t give us that information.

    I told him my username.

He said when you set it all up years ago did you use another email address and another username.

I said no. There was one used by my husband but nothing to do with me.

He asked what the username was and I told him. He said no, it’s not that.

I suggested another email address that I haven’t used for years and he said no, it’s not that.

He said well they are different. I think I can see what’s happened, someone has stolen your identity.

I said so if the details are different to what I gave you in the first place, why did you take my money.

He said that they just act upon the instructions given to them by ebay.
He asked if my family or friends used my account and I said no.

He said to get this money back in your account I need you to report the case to the police and get a case number. Then ring me with the information and I can put the money back into your bank account immediately. I need the man’s name that you spoke to at ebay, I will contact him. You needn’t speak to him again, I would like you and I to sort this out amongst ourselves.
He said if you could do this and ring back by 1pm and I will put the money straight into your account. (it was now 12.15pm)

I asked him for his name and contact number.

He gave this to me but said to ring on Monday with the case number. He said I could then speak to
Tracey Curzon who is IQOR’s Manager for Ebay.

I have just been to report this to the police and was told that as yet there has been no crime and that it is a mistake that needs to be sorted between ebay and IQOR. I was told that if I do not get my money back then I could take it to court and would need to prove that it wasn't my debt in the first place.
But no case - no case number to give to IQOR.

I wonder if IQOR know that this is the response to expect from the police.

The info on here is very useful but hindsight is a wonderful thing.
I had written down everything that had been said and had a full report for the police which was to no avail.
IQOR can carry on with this sort of thing and it's not considered a crime.

    I would just add - I'm a pensioner!!

That's a very concise and detailed email, but there are a few points I'd like to add.

    1)  Register on a (or several) debt advice forums - Legal Beagles, Moneysavingexpert, Consumer Action Group - and paste that email in your comment, asking for advice at the same time.

You'll get all of the advice you need - and a lot more.

    2)  If you must make phone calls to any companies such as this, make sure you record the call.

No - it's not illegal to do it, and you don't have to tell them you're doing it.

    3)  "I paid by the only card I have which is a debit card. £200.12. She gave me a ref. no. and an authorisation no." - Payment under duress.

Contact your bank and try to get a chargeback if you can (this is easier with some banks thean others).

    4)  "I rang the person back at IQOR and told her that my ebay account had been in order and she should never have asked for money from me. She said there was nothing she could do about it. It would be down to ebay to sort any problems out." - No, it isn't.

They've acted as agents for Ebay, and as such, are responsible for resolving any problems, especially since they took the money.  If you've already paid, they'll try not to deal with you.

If you deal with the problem in the right way, you can begin to make it a very expensive and time-costing £200 for them.

    5)  "I have just been to report this to the police and was told that as yet there has been no crime and that it is a mistake that needs to be sorted between ebay and IQOR. I was told that if I do not get my money back then I could take it to court and would need to prove that it wasn't my debt in the first place.  But no case - no case number to give to IQOR." - No.

It's for IQOR to prove you did owe the money, not for you to prove that you don't.

How does anyone expect you to prove a negative?

The police are fobbing you off by telling you this.

Report the problem to your local Trading Standards and IQOR's local Trading Standards (you can do all this via email), and register complaints with the Financial Ombudsman Service, and the Office of Fair Trading's Consumer Credit Licence section.

TS will contact IQOR on your behalf, to discuss the problem you've raised.

If the FOS investigate IQOR, they'll bill IQOR £500 for investigating (even if they come down on IQOR's side!).  You could be especially nasty - and log each and every transgression committed by IQOR as a complaint.

The OFT won't take your complaint on board as such, but it will be noted by them, and your complaint will be taken into account when IQOR's essential Consumer Credit Licence comes time to be reviewed.  And if the OFT think that IQOR have too many complaints logged against them, the OFT may revoke that licence - which means no more IQOR.

In your comment here, you already have full details to do all of this.  Hope you take it on board, and best of luck in having this problem resolved.

Oh, as far as the police are concerned - they will try to fob you off (as they do with every other victim of crime, to keep the figures down).

Escalate your complaint to the station commander.  If you get no joy there, escalate it further, and take it up with the area commander.  If you feel that the police aren't taking you seriously, raise a complaint with the IPCC (citing the names of the officers involved).

Was it too much hard work to expect you to spell three letters words correctly?  If you work for IQOR, of course it was.

Believe me, I pay my bills, my credit rating is good and I haven't missed any other payments on any other bills for years! I let my ebay fees slip recently but I do not think it is fair to say we should pay our bills and just ignore this problem.

These people are conning innocent people and being aggresive while doing it, I would not appreciate them calling my nan to do the same.

I  first got a text message 3/4 days ago which said something like:

"Please call Iqor on 08451550456 regarding an urgent business matter. or text and quote this reference XXXXXXXXX"

I did not call the number or send a text. Instead I type the name into google along with the word scam.
I quickly found that there is definitely something wrong here and that it is a scam so I ignore it.

1 or 2 hours later I get a call on my landline and this is how the convo went...

    Me: Hello

Iqor: This is Jackie calling on behalf of Ebay is it possible to speak to Mr ******.

Me: Yes thats me (I have a ebay account so was not suspicious so I said yes.

Iqor: Please can you confirm the first line of address and postcode?

Me: Gave the 1st line and postcode.

Iqor: Can you confirm your date of birth please?

Me: Err well, actually where are are you calling from again?

Iqor: I am calling from Iqor on behalf of Ebay regarding and outstanding invoice (Iqor? this is who text me).

Me: I do not have a outstanding Invoice (I do but want to have some fun)

Iqor: Your Ebay account is currently suspended and you have a invoice outstanding for £43.75.

Me: No I don't (I did not say this bit.. The invoice has never been £43.75, it was £35.75, I have since found out that it is a 8 quid admin fee. However I did pay 15 quid of it a 3/4 days prior to these idiots calling me which makes the outstanding amount £20.75)

Iqor: Why do you deny that you owe Ebay this money Mr XXXX.

    Me: Because I don't?

Iqor: something like: we know you do

Me: I know its a scam

Iqor: I am sorry Mr XXXX what was that

Me: I know its a scam

Iqor: what makes you say that Mr XXXX.

    Me: Google?

Iqor: We know you owe Ebay this money Mr XXXX, your account is currently suspended and you have feedback score of 172.

Me: Anyone can find out my feedback score and if my account is suspended (it is suspended, I dunno where they get their info from though along with all my contact details)

Iqor: Why do you deny you owe ebay this money Mr XXXX?

Me: Listen, when we started this conversation you asked me 3 data protection questions, I only answered 1 of them. I did not give you my date of birth and you have disclosed the invoice amount and possibly other delicate information, this would be breaching Data protection and anyway you have got my invoice amount completely wrong.

I know this is a scam!

Iqor: Ok Mr XXXX I will terminate the call, thanks.

This lady had a split personality, she seemed to switch from passive to aggressive to passive again.
Absolutely disgusting behaviour from these people.

My advice all potential victims is this, as I have read else where...

If you a company money you can pay that company its as simply as that. When someone calls you, ask where from and look out for the quickly muttered words (on behalf of).
I have logged into my ebay account today and paid my fees due to a second call I recieved today which I will transcribe below, while I was paying the fees I emailed Ebay to ask if they had referred my account to Iqor, I am awaiting a response. The invoice amount was no where near what Iqor were quoting.

The call I got today was from a man whos name I did not manage to take down but here is how the call went:

I have recieved 2 missed calls on the mobile in the last 2 days from the same number.

My partner answered the landline today and I was sitting right next to her.

She answered the phone and smiled and passed me the phone, I smiled back because I knew it was them, time for more fun.

    Iqor: Is that Mr XXXX?

    Me: Yes:

Iqor: its Joe Bloggs callin on behalf of Ebay can you confirm the first line of your address and postcode.

Me: No (In a really strange cant be bothered tone)

    Iqor: Sorry?

Me: Nooo (in a reeally strange cont be bothered tone)

Iqor: I need to confirm I am speaking to the right person, please confirm the first line of your address and postcode.

Me: Noooo (in a really strange cant be bothered tone)

    Iqor: Can I ask why?

Me: Noooo (in a really strange cant be bothered tone)

Iqor: It is quite a serious matter Mr XXXX

    Me: whats it about?

Iqor: I cannot confirm this at this stage I need to confirm you are the right person.

Me: I just told you its me?

Me: Where are you calling from?

    Iqor: Preston

Me: No which company are you calling from?

Iqor: I cannot disclose that information at this stage.

I Sniggered laughed and said good bye then hung up!!!

They phone me asking to confirm my details and cannot tell me where they are calling from?
That is one of the basics of DPA!!!

    Call terminated!

What a bunch of muppets lol !!!!

    ph

My advice to Iqor is this...

If you are a reputable company that really are working on behalf of Ebay then you need to realise that we are indeed customers of Ebay that you are messing with. You say that it is not about customer service and that the matter is serious. It is about customer service, if you want to collect money then you need to go about it a little more politely and learn about data protection and how to use it properly.

If I get a email back from Ebay saying that they did pass my details to this disgusting company then I will let you all know and I will close my Ebay account and advise everyone else to do the same!

I would also like to say that I think these websites which inform innocent people of this terrible behaviour are a god send. I will also suggest to all my friends that they post their experience as I believe it helps innocent people protect themselves and prepare for things like this.

I could go on and on trust!

This company have been calling me constantly for weeks, it is a problem i have with paypal, they refunded £50 to someone who paid a deposit for a car i sold.

I e-mailed paypal, constantly getting the usual reply to call their premium rate number, I asked them to call me and provided them with a number they could get in contact with me, they then said another paypal account had been used to pay me. I politely reminded them that it was a civil/fraud matter and i should have been informed and i would have contacted the police about the matter.

Now i am continually getting these annoying calls at all times of the day and even when i answer they hang up!!!

Good call to get watchdog involved, more complaints they get the more interest they'll have for the story.

This is IQOR collection agency for ebay, they sent me a letter too, with 25% added to what i owed ebay. The letter stated that if i contact ebay they would just refer me back to IQOR. This is not true, ebay took my money at the original debt without IQOR's 25%. Ignore IQOR and just pay ebay direct for the original amount you owe them. Ebay will open your account back up immediately and IQOR can whistle for there 25%. Also check your IQOR letter if you get one, mine was dated the 15th, arrived on the 19th saying i had 3days to pay, but the letter took 4days to arrive...i think they are holding the letters back so you can't meet there 3 day dead-line...

How my friend dealt with these lot

I am definitely not suggesting you do this

When "my friend" receives some junk form thru the letter box with a free return envelope

He filed in some "Micky Mouse address" and then he would add a phone number of a company that had cold called him etc

For instance if it was this number here he would fill that in.
I do not approve of this action
When these company's receive your form they sell on "that" name and address and phone number and that phone number gets more phone calls
