just had a call from 0845 6021111. Bt sms text. listened to the text and it was Mackenzie hall debt collection agency!!! Very odd

Recorded message left on my land line.
When trying to locate the call only had a list of numbers 1 2 3 4
Did not call the number back.

Knocking my landline contract on the head...who needs all this bulls..t

IT'S NOT A SCAM!!! It's simply a text message service. You can txt any landline number with a message. It rings the person and when they answer it simply reads out the message. Try it. Write a txt on your mobile and send it to your home number - hey presto, the phone will ring and you will get a quick messgae telling you the number and then you will hear the txt message being read out!

It's been around for years but very few people know about it.

It was an SMS message from BT reminding me that I have a dental appointment on Monday. Nothing sinister at all everyone out there too suspicious. Dental practice using it so that you don't forget the appointment therefore wasting the dentists time. A good idea!!!!

I was really annoyed by this and contacted BT.

If you do not want to receive these BT text messages you can turn this service off.

Ring the automated service 08005875252. Go through the menu and select the option to change the curfew at which you will accept text messages. The last option which is Option 5 is to turn them off all together.

As I said in my post above yours, you can turn the service off to stop getting these calls. I gave details and the freephone number to call.

This is a British Telecom SMS Delivery service... Not a scam.
Basically, if someone sends a text from mobile to landline - this is the service that delivers to message.

Yes, and in two messages on this page above yours I said that if you do not want to receive these BT text messages you can turn this service off and I gave the freephone automated number to do this.

rang this morning at 1000 then again at 1042.  didnt bother to pick up. just did 1471 to discover the number

Hi,I've been receiving lots of calls from this number and after reading the comments on here I tested the text message thing. It IS the case - I texted my home phone and my phone rang. I picked up and was advised that I had received a text message (it turned to be a text from my son who I expect selected my landline from my contact no's in his mobile.)

I chose option 1 to list to the message, then 2 to listen again, and 3 to delete the message!! Simple!! However, I don't know what BT have charged me for the privilege!!!

However, the assistance from BT in the interim was rubbish....but I have now told THEM what the number is for!!!

PS  my message above- I should have said: there were 2 sms messages - the first being my son's. This is the one that triggered the whole mystery in the first place (thanks Andy!) the second was the text I sent from my mobile. Anyway, I will thank my son for insitigating the whole thing, and as a cosequence, the his part in my discovery of the sms service to landlines!!

If my bt phone bill is large than usual, I'll be back on here to tell what the charges are for receiving a text.
Obviously, BT customer service staff have no concept of this number because their handling of my initial complaint was u.s.

This is totally unacceptable when not specifically asked for.
We deliberately do not allow BT anywhere near our home as they
have proved themselved to be deciptful and fraudulent.

This scam is yet another example of their disgraceful behaviour.

If someone texts your landline, this phone number calls you, so it's not really a scam (unless you get charged,perhaps!!).
However, if that's how you see it, you can opt out -see Poppikin above - which gives you the number, that's correct. Or you can choose to set the time parameters of when you want to be called (i.e. not at 4 a.m!)
Don't bother to contact BT about it, they don't seem to know about their own services, and told me to call their complaints dept when I started to receive calls from this number. (I called the no. I was given and it turned out to be the AUTOMATED no. to set up Tel Pref Service, which I already have!)Rubbish! But a good thing happened today - I was sent a Customer Satisfaction Survey to complete.......I'm expecting resignations shortly, NOT)

calls from 08456021111  - four in last 2 days stating my son has failed to pay a penalty charge.......? what!
Didn't call the number back but had a few choice words with BT for not monitoring scam calls and numbers.

This number called me at 11pm last night and has called 13 times in 24 hours!!!!!

DO NOT PANIC ,,, it is British Telecom Text service. ie- Some one has sent a TEXT message to your land line.. NO THING TO WORRY ABOUT

I keep getting late and early calls, why dont they leave an answer phone message?  Nuisance caller.

just had a call it isnt the sms service... thats a different number if u bother to text urself a text ull see the number is different if u dial 1471 from the nuisance caller
