Missed a call from 0894244700. tried calling back about 5 times as a friend recently moved to Melbourne but the number is busy. Decided to google the number and found this board... Just a little bit creeped out now.

i had a missed call from this nummber too and when i went to call back it was engaged.

Ok, I just got a call from this number and I am a sales manager, I have sold telco in the past and thats NOT how you do it.
There's no sales script in the world that starts with a close that way, "do you want to swap phones to telstra."
This guy is up to no good.

Just missed a call from 0894244700, tried ringing back but the number is busy. I also typed the number into google to see if it was anyone important but from what ive read here its just a telstra telemarketer :)

I got a call from this number about 20 minutes ago. Was a woman who spoke slightly fast and not fantastically clearly, kinda ocker accent. Had to get her to repeat who she was twice and the last time she overemphasised/articulated that she was Debbie from Telstra as if she thought I was stupid or deaf. The connection seemed ok but about this point it seemed to break up a little. I thought I heard her say "are you still there?" just as the call got cut off. She didn't call back and I haven't bothered. It sounded dodgy so I googled the number and found this and another forum-ish thing like this with reports on the same number. I'm with Virgin so no idea where they got my number.

When I picked up a female voice was talking as if to somone else the phone line was very difficult to hear. She said "I can't hear" & "this is really weird" then hung up after a minute.

When I tried to call back on a land line I could not get through as phone was engaged. after several attempts i googled the number I found this website.

just logged a call with optus regarding this phone number they are going to barr them from calling my number...while i was on hold waiting for optus I receievd a call from them so I answered it was a guy couldnt pronouce his name was of indian origin and claiming he was from telstra and they have a big campaign going on for the G network but as he started going into it I hung up cause optus answered the other phone I was on. Hope optus barrs their ph number before they call back cause some of the stories told are freakie.

I have had missed calls from both 0894244700 and 0862102300 in the last week always first thing in the morning or right on 5pm in the afternoon. When I try to ring them back the number is always engaged. I find this really creepy as I have family in S.A. and the 089 and 086 area codes are both S.A. area codes.

I have bared the number, and I do recommend you all to do the same. Ring your service provider if they can do it via networks, otherwise read your phone manual, and bar it, under call barring option.

If you do happen to pick up the call again, just act dumb, and tell them.. No English.. "Sorry, No English", or pretend to be deaf "huh.. what?... sorry.. I can't hear you.. hello.. hello.." and hang up. Otherwise, let them waste their phone call, pick it up, and put the phone into one corner.

Just a note: have their phone number store on your contact list, and name it "[***] HEAD", so that when the number called again, you know who it is.

Thats my tip, a 2cents worth. hope it will help you peoples out there.

Thanks for all the info - just like Ang, I thought it was a WA number (prefix is also 08). Now, I have decided to take Angry's advice.

he called me today to tell me that telstra was closing down all cdma phone services next month. i think he tried to sell me a new phone, but it was hard to tell- his accent is very weird. i told him I was on a plan and he said he would get back to me about whether my carrier was cdma or not. thanks for all the comments. I now know what to tell him to do when he rings back.

I too have received numerous calls from this number. I answered it only once to abuse them for continually calling once per day for weeks. No-one responded and I was hung up on shortly after. I also get calls from 0862102300 on alternate days. I advise anyone receiving calls from this number to not answer it and report it to your provider.

I received two calls from this number no message, over the past two days. I also received missed call from 0862102300, i am assuming it is the same people??

I have read all your comments and am in the same situation.
I am getting a call from 08 9424 4700, which at first I answered because in WA 089 is the area code (like SA). There is never anyone there and now I just ignore it and it goes to my voice message and I can hear music in the background.
Very annoying so I think i will call OPTUS now and get them to barr the number from calling me.

nothin just keep getting the engaged signal, thought it was a call from W. australia. not sure what is going on, but this site has cleared alot up.

Hey Guys , Let me shine some light on it for ya's.
These people are from a company called TSA telco Group ( google em up ) they are partners with telstra and are telemarketers.

How do i know this ? Well i answered the call and was conned into accepting thier deal of a 24 month plan on $30 a month.

I recieved that call 21/02/08 ,  That night i freaked out thinking they were gunna conn me big time.  Next Day ( today ) searched em up and called them and managed to get through to a customer service op and cancelled the entire order.

There ya go - If i were You i would avoid the whole thing and just dont answer.

I had a missed call from the mentioned number at 12:54pm today. I only typed the number into a search engine to find out what area code in Australia the call originated form and I found this page.. I am triping out now!!

I think it sounds really dodgy and it would just be a scam for sure..

Ok I just rang and talked to telstra, as i have been getting 2 or 3 calls a day from this and another number. THEY ARE NOT TELSTRA!! they are a company called "telco direct" (well thats what the telstra guy said when he looked up the number). His advise was to list your number on do not call, and then it is illegal to call me.
