I just wish to log for the record that the TPS (Telephone Preference Service) does not work considering that:
    1.   I have been registered with them for 5 years and still receive sales calls.
    2.  Mobile phone users are given carte blanche to send abusive text messages and not get identified without one contacting the police.
    3.  In the USA you can id anyone's phone number - no problem.
    4.  If the UK government have declared that it will take the UK 30 years to secure the island from terrorists then who the f**k is missing the point - I'll tell you:
    A.  The TPS
    B. OFTEL
    C. The Government
    D. Data Protection Act
    E. British Telecom
    F. The Police Confederation
    G. The end users - the genral public ... vote with your feet to establish proper phone directories (both landline and mobile) to stop wasting everybody's time when we receive calls from sales pests or weirdos.

have been receiving calls from the multiple "0" number for the last couple of days, usually 2 or 3 times a day.  i just ignore them, but did answer once for just a 2 or 3 seconds.  sounded dead, perhaps an indication a recording was going to start.  will check with my carrier, verizon, in the AM but don't expect that will be of much good.

Multiple 000's number - said they were a Govt department (didn't say which government) but it was a debt management service who said they could reduce interest pid to nil. Strung them along for a while but when I said I could manage my current debt they lost interst and terminated call.

Received a call today, I hung up after a few seconds silence. Picked up the receiver a few minutes later to dial 1471 & they were still on the line but not speaking! Hung up again.

A similar experience to 'Rog' (3/27/09).  Called ATT to report, but they've no knowledge of it.  3-4 times a day, never a msg.  The one time I answered it seemed dead, only held it for about 4 seconds.

These calls have started again after a few weeks break! Today we got this 0000000000000000 phone number. My husband answered and an Indian voice said that we eligible for grants for out home. These were free and did we know about them? My husband asked who he was but got no response, the guy just kept prattling on about the grants. Hubby just put the phone down in the end.

Received a call from this number at 3.10 on Friday December 3rd 2010. American voice who wanted to speak to 'The Lady of the House.' Then wanted to ask me about insulating my home - when I told him it was all sorted he would not give up. So I told him that I would not give him any information and put down the 'phone.

i have had several phone calls to my land line with this number, I have never actually answered it . Just got the number from 1471  I do not want to call it back as do not trust anyone and with so much Identity theft going on I do as much as I can to protect myself.
How ever I would like to get this number banned from calling me so going to ring up my phone services after this .
It is rather annoying as they call up at all times . Should I call the police as you cant trust anyone these days. I suppose if I do there is no harm done.
I did have one company call me up and so called them back and tried to sell then stuff , and it was obs their home number, so called them at awkward hours just as they had done  to me and I also on last call demanded that she took me off her list , She did after I called her at 3.30 am and 4am. and not heard from then since lol
So if you actually get through to one of these numbers try that as it worked for me
