Phone call at 2115hrs on 4 April from a difficult to understand man, who had details of my post code.  Sounded as if he was trying to tell me I had a security problem. I hung up.  The call, according to 1471 came from 0018016929002.

well someone must be making it worthwhile for these calls still to be made - BT maybe as they will obviously received revenue from calls they process and of course whoever supplies these parasites who sit making the calls cos they would rather fraudulantly get money from unsuspecting normal folk. Anyway lots of people use these numbers to make it look bona fide and not a hidden caller but anyone who acts upon and follows instructions from anyone calling you out of the blue is asking for trouble. These numbers are mostly routed to India and Pakistan and often will report to be working for Microsoft Windows and if you do what he says by pressing the windows key and the letter r on your keypad you are giving him the opportunity to enter into your world so just put the phone down

Yes, your phone Company will make money out of delivering such calls to your phone.   Hence their reluctance to do anything at all to stop the traffic.    Recipients of the calls need to be more alert to the idea that calls like this are not originating in the UK.    For some strange reason a proportion of people don't have a clue what genuine numbers look like but simply answer anything and everything that rings.

00 1808 644 4944. Didnt get to phone in time but pretty sure its a dodgy call.
