Report a phone call from 004951234567 and help to identify who and why is calling from this number.
- ZFor the last 6 months I got phone calls from this number +4951234567. I hear a recorded message design to triger a reality-like conversation : "Hello"... "do you hear me?" ... "Can I speak to Mike please?"... "Mike Hutchinson"
I tried to phone back in order to ask for a stop. Never anyone toke the call. But now I get 6 to 10 calls a day. Always the same. - ZMore details. Calls always between 12:00 up to about 21:00. Often one time masked, then one time visible phone number. The call lasts for about 50 seconds, and is always finished by the caller.
The voice is the one of a 30ish years of age young male, speaking english with a german accent. - ZOops. More details again. I got those calls from seemingly Germany on to my swiss mobile phone. I am based in Switzerland.
- ZHi there. I also found the name and address you found after a reverse phonebook search. I even found a MySpace profile matching pretty well some postal adresse details, and name details, yet I could not find an email where to write to.
I did not want to publish name and adress in clear because I know so little about the scam that I can not exclude the calling number is faked, or the number "owner" is the victime of a virus - scam - fraud. Yet... this is really anoying and it still goes on and on. So will u poste some of your progress news here ?
On my side : Swisscom claims thay can do nothing, that thay have to protect the caller ( instead of protecting me the victime ) - that it is not possible to block a calling number ( = pure bull [***] becaus eothetr opperator can do it in matter of seconds ) so I am a little desperate.
Bye.
Z - oYes, I will post news here. Until now the calls go on but my lawyer sent the letter last week, so maybe it needs some time. If nothing happens, I will press criminal charges against the scammer. In Germany it is not important if you are the scammer or not - if someone owns the number and does nothing to stop the scam (even after the lawyer's letter) he is guilty.
bye
o. - ZOK. Tx for info. I posted a message through MySpace to the profile. It's somehow risky because I can be just plain wrong : the MySpace user can have nothing to do with the scam.
Regards.
Z - oFinally I got him on the line. He has a telephone and internet flatrate, and maybe someone hijacked the telephone. He told me that his provider will disable all foreign country connections from his number. So maybe in a few days this story is history...
Regards
o. - ZWow ! How did you get him ? Because I tried several time to simply call him in order to simply ask for a stop. No one ever picked the phone. Maybe I did not try hard enough. ( Or maybe... he eventually picks up the calls because he got your lawyer letter and - one more maybe - the MySpace msg ? Hum... lots of "maybe". ) Anyway : hopefully that will end soon. And then I don't care the details.
I'll keep this thread posted with news if needed.
Regards
Z. - ZWell... FY ultra fresh information : now getting one more call. Same again. Not yet over.
- ZThere is one thing that bugs me though : I am not aware of any system that could get you through to a *international* *mobile* phone number for a flat monthly rate. Even with Skype, one would have to pay every communications, or is it so ? My point : my understanding is that some one have to pay for all the completed calls.
So except of true hijacking, I can't see the point of the scam. But in that case, how come this user did not notice the extra-cost generated by those calls ? I am rather sceptical and puzzled.
For the record: for the last week my phone was off. So it did not even ring. I observe now the absence of anonymous calls. Only clear ID calls.
Z. - oThe same for me too. After recharging my mobile (I always switch it off) I had only clear ID calls. The owner of the number told me YESTERDAY that his provider will disable the foreign country connections. Normally, it takes some time (up to two weeks)... So we have to be a little bit patient.
Concerning the costs: With combined flatrates for a very high monthly fee (depends on the package) one can call even international numbers. Some providers do not break the fee down to single numbers.
Meanwhile, you can add the scam number to your contacts -> and set the ring tone to "none". That worked for me like a charm... - ZYep. I know some mobile phones enables call rejection as well. Not mine. Not many. Can't even make a silent ring tone which indeed is an elegant workaround.
OK for costs insight. That makes hijacking or pure malice a plausible scenario. Just for the sake of annoying end user. What a fun !
Let's wait and see. - ome again. just for your information: type in "caller-id fake" in google and you get a lot of links saying that (and how) the caller id can be faked. you just need a voip-software like asterisk and can insert any caller id you want...
:-(
so maybe the problem is not resolved so easily. another option i will try is switching off the mobile in my vacations for a week or so. maybe the caller will give up after the x-th fruitless try. - ZNo calls any more for the last tow days.
How about you dear "o" ? - ofor me too - no calls anymore since saturday... *yippieh*
- ZIt would be satisfying to know what actually happened because I feel pretty in the fog. But hey : seams to be over for now. Heil to *yey* ! I am happy we captured some of that shite here, because I now can forget all about it, but should it start again : there is a record.
For the record : I tried again to somehow heavily defend the idea with SwissCom to have that number being blocked. Got no answer but "we can't do it" which I just don't believe. My last email got no answer, ( I snail mailed also before ).
Bye. - JHey folks! I live in Finland and I've been getting the same "can I speak with Mike" calls. I get them on my cellphone, and it's been going on for at least 6 months. Finally today a caller ID showed up, and after a little bit of Googling, here I am. I ended up with the same German number. I think I'm gonna take this up with the local operator. I'm not sure how much they can do about it but we'll see...
