She said she was from BT 118 - not 118 but actually said "BT"

I know she wasnt though, because she hung up after I said: "Surely if you are from BT then you would know my address and business name, etc"

I keep getting calls from the same guy claiming to be from 118 information asking for my business info/details to go in the phone book.  He's used different numbers with the 0121 area code.  It all sounds a bit dodgy as surely they would know my business name etc!

If you have requested a free business listing through UpMyStreet then this is the company that they run their listings from (I rang them today after having a message).

The guy I spoke to was very polite and said he'd remove my details immediately at my request.

This number rings most days, when answered they said they was from 118 telephone directory yet they still continue to ring asking irrelevant questions.

Pester me in Windsor all the time - damn menace - best to block

keep leaving automated message asking me to call back and confirm business details, claim to be 118. Why should I call back if they cant be bothered just to call me directly?

No way am I going to call them back at my expense.

Just got a call from 0121 355 8600, wanting me to ring them back to confrim my business listing for 118 118, i dont even have a business!  The telephone number i have was for the local doctor over 10 years ago, i hate to think Directory Enqs is that far out of date!

I got that message too.
I called them back and they removed my number so I dont get nuisance calls so much now

Just had a part of a recorded message (auto dialled - not by a human!) giving 0121 3540949. I called this number and found that it was 118 Information of Sutton Coldfield also on 0121 3558600.

They collect information, personal, which they state they pass on to all the other directories that they list on their web site so they are kept up to date?

Asked them if they were a member of the DMA, they had never heard of it. They also do not use the TPS so yet another one of these nuisance companies which should be made illegal along with their activities.

Complain to the (DMA) Direct Marketing Association, the (ICO) Information Commissioners Office and the (TPS) Telephone Preference Service.

if u listen to what the people say they ring u because you are already listed with the service. there is no charge what so ever and the best thing to do if u dnt want to recieve marketing or sales call from it is sign up to the TPS (Telephone Preference Service) or agree to giving them an email and there is a tick box tht unsubscribes you from any marketing. Again they will only ring u if u r already listed with them

They are a marketing company.  They, no doubt, submit your details to other companies as promised.  This is not a service they provide out of the kindness of their heart - they will also submit your details to anyone else who pays them for the info.  Within a day of their phone call we have received two unconnected and unsolicited emails advertising printing services - both traceable back to 118 information (118information.co.uk).

They are not affiliated with 118.com, although they seem quite happy to give the impression they are.

Their T&Cs state that they will 'pass' (ie. sell) your information to 'interested third parties'.  They also state that they will use cookies to track not just visits to their site, but also your general internet usage - information that they will also 'pass' to 'interested third parties'.  The fact that it is now illegal to do this in th EU without giving express permission seems to have passed them by.

They are part of, or related to, Data Resource Corporation Ltd.

This number 0121 355 8600 came on a message I got by email, which raised my suspicions. I've been trying to find out about it, but googling 111 Information or my118information came up with no reliable leads until I googled the phone number and got this site. Just in case anyone else gets it, here's my response, and the email that elicited it.

Dear Whoever you are.

My calling [clergy] prevents me from expressing my feelings in quite the way I might think of, but if you think of the word "OFF" following a word represented by the letter B, 4 asterisks and a letter R, you will get the idea.

I have never paid for your service in the past, and no payment to you will ensure my business (ha!) gets onto the various directories and search engines you mention. Those it is on, it will stay on, those  it is not on, it will continue not to be on.

So you must be on the make, because apart from your woefully poor website I can find no mention of your having any official capacity, which leads me to suspect that you are either a scam or someone on the make thinking he can pull a sharp one on some unsuspecting businesses and voluntary organisations (in other words, a scam).

So please do as your imagination will have discerned is my wish from my opening sentence.

I am the first to attack scammers and to be rude back to those who call unsolicited and are rude to me.  .
However, that email response to a very polite info enquiry is very rude.
I have just dealt with this company and they were polite and my information which was out of date is now in date.
When confirming online I checked the box asking not to have my details passed on to third parties.
This company collates info for listing websites which I find useful.
Perhaps save your anger for the more deserving?

If you have any problems with this company you should seek to talk with a Manager or a Director and not one of the regular phone monkeys(PM); the first PM I spoke to gave me incorrect and misleading info. When I managed to speak to Nick Brown (Customer Services Director) he was helpful, apologetic and resolved my issue immediately.

This is mostly a case of poor training and little or no effort by the minions on the phones; they probably resent having to talk to you as much as you resent having them call you.

Claimed to be from 118 information. On there webpage www.118information.co.uk, it does state it's a free listing and shows the different directory companies they update for. The confirmation email i did receive had a tick box that ensured my email address wasn't passed on to other 3rd parties. The majority of the information we did confirm on the phone was all accurate and up to date anyway.  Satisfied with the overall service

Appears to be a data harvesting and brokering outfit called Data Resource Corporation Ltd run by a Mr and Mrs Spinks. Wonder who they flog our data to? PPI outfits? The ICO would be delighted to hear about their calls on www.snapsurveys.com/swh/surveylogin.asp?k=134674895144 as they are collating complaint data to investigate and fine data miscreants.
