Had a sales call from this number, phoned it back to find it was Uni Discount? Registered a complaint with them.

Basically an incredibly rude an obnoxious sales guy called wanting to speak to the owner of the business. Having done no research they weren't aware we're not based in the UK, so I told him, and went on to block his call going anywhere (nobody would speak to him anyway), he was trying to call about electricity contracts.

I hung up on him he was so rude.

30 seconds later another call this time from withheld number, he said " i want to speak to someone more senior than you", I refused, he called me a [***]! Great attitude!

Don't give them a chance! Reputable companies do not do this.

Caller asked to speak to the owner of the business. Told me they wanted to register my electricitry meter, that they worked for all the electricity providers and went by the name of "The Meter Registration Department".

I expressed surprise that I had never ever heard of them and in any case I doubted that meter registration was necessary. When I said I was in fully serviced accommodation they ended the call.

I have recently moved offices and this is one of many calls I'm getting from ultility-connected businesses.  Someone who knows of the move had obviously sold the fact.

These people rung me today, they tried to tell me that I was on emergency rates, which I've never heard of, so I assumed they were dodgy.

When they began speaking, they said they were from The Meter Registration Department, when I mentioned that I'd heard of a company with that name, which was dodgy, they then told me the name of the company was, 'Late Registrations', I asked if they had a website and this is the one they told me:

    http://www.billscutter.com/

Please don't give out any details, a genuine company will happily send you information in writing, rather than just cold-calling you. If in doubt, hang up.

Been bombarded with calls who refuse to remove our number from their database tryign to get us to use them to sort out our electricity supply contract.I understand they also go by Meter Registration Department. They use these company names to try blagging their targets they are some offical reputable company.

I have also been contacted by Benjamin Dexter and Business Energy who are probably part of the same blag

I have repeatedly asked them to remove us from their data base but the cals keep coming.

I use to work for this company and it is a complete scam they work mainly for opus energy who are a nightmere once you get into contract with them. there are some decent energy brokers try commercial energy they will help you out and offer advice on how to handle others more vigirous brokers.

Definetly rude guys.  They did not introduce themselves as I felt the scam and gave minimum info so they simply put the phone down.

I think they also sent a letter under another name "on behalf of the landlord" asking for copy of electricity bill and asking who the main contact was. I asked for more info on them and they never came back.

We just moved offices so someone tiped them off.

I've had the same call twice since moving offices only two weeks ago. I haven't been here all the time so have no idea how often or why they keep calling. I've explained that I'm not responsible for the utilities being in a fully serviced office.
I've also had a lot of calls from directory companies from the second my new number went live. Someone at the phone companies must give out this information and it's not right because you have a choice about giving out information even if you are a business.

Just had a new line set up for a business, phoned me 5 or 6 times in one day - absolute nightmare.  Shouted at them to take me off their list several times.  Ignore these calls - just another scam from a very unprofessional organisation who are clearly out to rob any pennies off you they can.

Same here, woman rung me telling me my meter had expired. I told her I was in a rent accommodation and bills were covered then continued to ask how she got my number. After that she hung up - this is the second time they have done this to me and they still refuse to take my number off their list.

Had a call to my mobile number from these people.  Worryingly they knew my name and address.  Tried to tell me that my electricity meter had expired and that I was paying 50% over what I should be.  I asked the woman three times to tell me her name and what company she was calling from but kept going on in a very aggressive way insisting there was an issue with my meter and then hung up on me.  Very weird!

We have been getting calls from steve nightinghale, meter registrations, stating he works for npower, and that we needed to have an electric supplier since we have moved into new premises.  He then told me that a colleague knew all about the call and so I proceeded, whereupon he handed me over to another person, his manager, called lily palmer, who, in her introduction, stated that she was working for select energy !!  I am absolutely fuming - grrrrrr - what can I do, can I complain to anyone, other than their company ??

To everyone who has been scammed by this company.

I work for a large plc organisation with hundreds of High Street Shops.  We are currently opening about fifty new shops and every time with have the phone connected, the new site is bombarded with scam calls.  They mis-lead our staff and then I find we are locked in a 3-year contract with Npower at high rates.

The scammer always claims to be from "Meter Registrations" or "Commercial Registrations" There is no such entity. Ecoes are the official registration company for electric, and it is only the eclectic companies that have to register that they are your supplier.

In all cases so far, the scammer has turned out to be a company called Billscutter in Fleetwood or Blackburn.

If you have found your self in a contract and want to get out of it, please check out the Ofgems website.  There is a code that has to be followed by these agents.  In particular, from 2009, they have to give you a comparison estimate for their new deal and how much it would be if you stayed with the existing terms.  If they have not supplied you with this they can't hold you a contract.  I have also been advised that by our energy consultant that Ofgem have ruled that only written and signed contracts are valid, although I have still to find this clause.  At the end of the day, what professional organisation would rely on verbal contracts?  In theory they are legal and binding, but not reliable in court.  What are you doing Npower? Why are you allowing this company to arrange contracts for you?  This will only back fire for you.

Npower will not receive any money from our company for the disputed accounts.  If you have a similar dispute but are worried about having the power disconnected, then you should know that they have to get a court order to disconnect your supply.  They know these verbal contracts are dodgy and so won’t take it that far.  I have some disputes going back 4 or 5 years with various utility companies (not related to Billscutter) and they just give up chasing after a while.

I hope you can benefit from my experience.

We just had a call from Select Energy Direct, they bascially recorded us agreeing to this contract, but we thought we were talking to Npower.

I think this kind of thing should be against the law.

    Its utter [***].

How do we get out of this verbal contract?

OMG I have had exactly the same thing from this company - I have lost count the number of times I've had to phone Opus - they are absolute thieves and total lying [removed:lang].  I wish I had checked this out first but being new to business I had this totally stupid idea that people might just be a bit genuine.  They all say they are from Meter Registration Service and not brokers.  I spoke to Brian at Consumer Focus (I got the number from Offgen) who said these contracts are legally binding and I might have to buy myself out of it as I had already signed up with NPower but SEAN BURTON at this company lied and said it had been refused.  I asked SEAN BURTON and LILLY PALMER several times if it was true and even apologised for being 'anal' about it - they reassured me and guess what - this part of the recorded message didnt appear in the one I was sent to by Opus.  It has been an absolute nightmare, I have lost sleep and had to try and run my business because of these greedy, unscrupulou [removed:lang]- it is apparently totally unregulated and they can say what they like.  Opus even had the cheek to tell me they had taken my contract on in 'good faith'!!!
