- Paul Duncan| 1 replyThis company has just called claiming that they are from employment agency and that they had received my CV through Total Jobs. Asking if I was currently looking for suitable employment using my skills.
I know that he had my CV in front of him as he confirmed my current employer and previous employers. None of these details I had previously offered.
Towards the end of the conversation, he asked if I was in a position to be able to provide references and testimonials and could he have their names and addresses.. I then started to smell a rat... I am not in the habit of giving any details out over the phone. Once I told him this, he just wanted to end the conversation.
I asked for his name and company details, this is when he put the phone down.
What is this...? A New scam..? Be careful out there... I hope that this number is able to be traced.. Because when I called it back, it was unobtainable..- Caller: Unknown

- Stephen BoothHad a number of silent calls from this number. Just now they called again and I got a woman with a strong Manchester accent who told me that the company name was 'Versatile'. In the background I heard typical 'call center' noise. I said I'd never heard of the company. She said that the company did exist and was based in Manchester. I told her I'd guessed that from the accent. She acknowleded that she had a Manchester accent. She said that they were regulated by the Ministry of Justice and the National Credit Database had shown that I was owed money from a credit agreement I had taken out. I said "Please stop calling me. Please remove my contact details from your system. If you or anyone from this number calls me again I WILL contact the Information commissioner, I WILL get you fined." then hung up.
The number they called has been registered with the Telephone Preference Service for well over a decade.- Caller: Versatile

Bogus TPS Calls
The Telephone Preference Service is completely free to consumers.
TPS will not call a subscriber of the service to ask for personal details or payment to complete a registration.
If you have registered via the web and have received an e-mail confirmation and clicked on the attached link, that's it! Your number will be registered for FREE with TPS.
We will not contact you again in relation to your registration (unless you have number(s) registered with the Corporate TPS, where we will contact you annually by email to renew your subscription - this is still a free service).
If you do receive a call from someone claiming to be from the TPS or a similar sounding organisation, asking for personal information or charging you for this service, our advice is to not pay or give them any personal details, it is most likely a scam.
We are aware of a number of organisations that call from overseas, possibly India claiming to be TPS or affiliated with TPS or BT. They ask for your credit card details to complete a registration to stop unwanted calls. They often claim that you previously gave your permission for this call. This is a scam. Never give out your credit card details over the phone.
The names of some of these organisations, given to us by consumers are:
Alien Touch
SAIS Corp Ltd
Icon Global Services
IG Services
ITC
Biztek (or Bisdek) Telecomms
Consumer Advice Bureau
- our advice is NOT to pay them.
Beware of Unregulated Companies Charging For Their Service!
There are other companies that are not necessarily scams but they are not TPS. They usually claim to offer a similar or even an enhanced service to TPS.
They make exaggerated claims about the effectiveness of their service and may even suggest that TPS does not work.
Some of these companies are listed below:
CPR Global (previously known as the Call Prevention Registry)

Opt Out UK

Anti Marketing Group

All of the above are commercial organisations, all of which charge consumers for a service that is unregulated.
TPS is the only official Opt Out service that companies are required to abide by under the UK law and that is regulated by Ofcom and enforced by the Information Commissioners Office (ICO).
If you have any information on these types of companies (phone number, web address), please send details to john.mitchison@dma.org.uk - RachelThis number does NOT belong to Versatile Finance (PPI Claims). I have called up Versatile and asked them about this blag number and what they claim to be providing, and they have no information on the blag number. The woman who I spoke to at Versatile said that they do provide information with O2, The Carphone Warehouse and PPI Claims. But not with BT and home insurance renewal. Versatile told me that they will look into this blag phone number and if anyone has anymore information call Versatile Finance (number on their website if you google it), or report the blag phonecalls to the ICO or the police.
Versatile Finance and this number are based in the same area in Manchester (around Princess Way and Deansgate), but from the way the woman, who works at Versatile, was so shocked by these blag phonecalls and what they were asking of the people they were phoning, I don't think they have any connection and it is a blag company using Versatile's policies/approach as their own.
Avoid this number, and if you do answer, I would advise getting a pen and paper and writing down everything they say and getting as much information as possible from them so the culprits can be found. Because I don't know about everyone else but this has been months of annoying/worrying phone calls and I never give my number out unless its someone I know.
Hope this information was useful!- Caller: Unknown

- ValI think that this was from Resort Direct ( DIALLED 1471) offering to sell me 2 weeks holiday, anywhere in the world and at any time of year. The resorts would be Gold Crown status. Once you agree to buy they want £149 per week up front. On being told that monies would not be paid out without documentation, told it would come through in the form of an email. I asked for a telephone number and was given 'FREEPHONE - 08001985010 - but have no intention of contacting this number.
Naturally we investigated the validity of the company - surprise they appear to have none. It would appear that they take the money and enjoy whilst the customer is left with nothing to enjoy!
They are phoning back on Friday - I guess everyone will know what the answer will be!
Will confirm number and further information after Friday.- Caller: Resorts Direct?

- MrsB| 1 replySomeone rang asking for my husband.I said he is not here but I can take a message and asked who is calling. The guy on the other end of the phone said Sam from PCH. I asked what company PCH is as I have never heard of them and he said it's to do with insurance.I said well exactly what does it have to do with insurance then ? He didn't reply. I asked him 3 times why he was calling and I could hear him breathing at the other end - finally I said Sam why are you calling my husband and he hung up.
I have immediately notified the TPS as we have been on there for years !!!!! Am so sick of these people cold calling.- Caller: PCH
