Just had a call from Robinson Way asking to confirm my date of birth. When I asked them what Robinson Way did the guy on the other end was reluctant to tell me. Eventually he told me they are a financial institution at which point I hung up.
They are a debt collection agency which specialise in recovering old debt. Old enough to have been written off by whichever real financial institution you may have owed monies to and certainly not on your credit file any more. The original company to which you owed the debt to will not care if you still owe them £1000 8 years ago. If you pay any money to Robinson Way I can assure you the creditor will only receive about half the money, if that. My advice is never answer the phone to them ever again and they'll get the message. If they write to you threatening legal action ignore that too. They have no legal right to chase you for a written off debt.

In the UK report them to the ICO or OFCOM.  Use their simple online reporting systems as often as you can spare the time.  I am in communication with Ofcom about this "pest" and have recently received the following.

"I would also like to assure that Ofcom takes the problem of unwanted calls very seriously and it is one of our major work areas. Therefore we appreciate you taking the time to tell us about the silent calls you are receiving.  Because we receive a substantial number of complaints about silent calls, we are unable to act on every one. But as well as using complaints data to identify enforcement targets, we look at trends. For example, at how the number of complaints changes over time and the types of companies that are generating them. If complaints persist about any particular number, we will consider taking enforcement action. If in any given case we decide that action is appropriate, we tend to issue a warning letter to the company. If the company does not respond, we can open a formal investigation. Where we identify that a company is in breach of our regulations, we can and do impose financial penalties."

Are these companies right in the head who would buy a debt that hasn't been paid in the first place I wont pay as I don't owe Robinson way money in the first place

The debt is statute barred after six years. This means that you can no longer be taken to court over the debt. This does not stop these parasites from continuing to pursue the debt. The reasons for their pursuit are twofold: You may pay the debt in full. You may acknowledge the debt by making a small payment, (1p is enough), which lifts the statute barring and the six years starts again!

Invite the cretins to show you evidence that you are liable for the debt and that the debt is still outstanding. That should stuff them completely. Make a recorded phone call to them, (https://www.recordyourcall.co.uk/), and tell them that if the evidence requested is not forthcoming then they must stop calling you. Tell them that you will invoice them for your time if you receive any more calls from them prior to such evidence being received. Many of those who work as Debt Collectors are not polite because they are not Boy Scouts and/or Girl Guides.  They are mainly a downtrodden lot, and their ranks include ex-convicts, drug addicts, 20-somethings without high-school diplomas and a variety of other hard-luck cases.
Oh, my gawd, they are like thugs.  However, the more clean-cut types simply can’t get the job done.  So don't expect that debt collector, who is calling you, to be nice!!!
