These people are trying to kid you they are calling on behalf af a Government department with grants for home insulation - they even offered to send a "Government Inpspector" to my home to check the insulation - when I asked them if they were ringing from the Government or trying to sell me something the lady put her manager on - he then hung up when I told him it was illegal to make cold calls without checking TPS (to which I subscribe, obviously). - it is about time they were shutdown!!

Have just received a call from this number.   Just three rings so did not pick up, looked at caller display afterwards.   I am with TPS, and find these intrusive calls very irritating.

Got a couple of calls now. When I called them back, a voice said that the number isn't in use at the moment and available for purchase... I hope its not one of those calls I will get charged lots of money even for this 30 second call....

Called today, but we missed it.

Received the same call this morning at 10:14 with a male voice asking if I was Mr R x.

I replied no (he was actually referring to my wife's previous husband who was deceased 8 years ago), and in the time I asked who I was talking to, he put the phone down on me. The phone number had come up on my caller display. We are also registered with the TPS. The area code 01792 covers the Swansea/Gower area.

Given that it was a national number, I did ring the number to see which company had been so rude.However I obtained the following message from a female voice:

"This number you have called is not assigned to any of our customers. If you would like to purchase this number, please contact www.AQL.com/telecoms.  If you were not expecting to hear this message you may have misdialled. Please try again.

Later today, I searched the web to find a contact for AQL as they were mentioned in the message (they appear to be a genuine telecommunication company) to try and find contact details. Their address is 11-15 Hunslet Road, Leeds, LS10 1JQ on phone number 0113 3203040. I selected option 2 to be directed to their Support Team.

The guy said they were aware of the problem, but had not yet traced the originator of the calls. He said they thought the caller was using this number as a call diverter and hoding behind it, I said the problem had been highlighted on this blog since the beginning of the year and if they are not involved, then their name is certainly being dragged into the situation because their name is mentioned in the voice message, which he said was a misuse of their messaging system.

I am going to email AQL to put my concerns in writing and will also be trying to copy my concerns to Oftel as well, especially since these concerns have not been solved in 10 months. The guy also said I could contact my own telephone provider, and they may be able to trace the caller via the diverter call, but even if they succeeded, they probably would not tell me the number.

When the caller does not even have the courtesy to say who he represents, it does leave consumers nervous as to the reason for the call. It's not a silent call. Is it a scam? Is it a company trying to find out if the property is empty during the day, because certainly it does not appear to be a genuine marketing call when the guy can not be bothered to continue his sales spiel

I called back to this number and was told that this number is not in use, Do I want to purchace this number??

Phoned at 10:20 on 25/10/10. Caller hung up when I answered.

My dad received a call today at 14:32 from 01792 720043.  My dad has been diagnosed with cancer and unsolicited calls are the last thing he wants to deal ith.  When I called this number, there was a message asking if we wanted to have the number allocated to us and to check the web site www.aql.com followed by the comment "if you did not expect to hear this message please hang up and redial". When I redialled, the number was not recognised.

Received a call last week from a company so say providing insulation through Gov grants - they said that everyone was eligible for a grant.  Apart from being peeved through the cold call I was quite interested in getting some cheap cavity wall insulation and arranged for someone to come over tonight.  I received a call from this number today but didn't answer in time.  Since seeing this website I did some checking with www.direct.gov.uk and found out the scheme was being managed by The Warm Front Team in Newcastle.  I called them and was told definitely that I was NOT eligible for a grant but that the company who called me may have got their wires crossed with energy supplier grants - I told them that it was more likely a scam.  Hope the person turns up tonight, I've got some testing questions for them... heh heh

 PICKED THE PHONE UP AND THE VOICE SOUNDED LIKE CHINESE.
 DIALED NO AND WAS TOLD THAT THIS NO HAD NOT BEEN ALLOCATED AND WOULD I

This number 01792720043 just one more in a barage of silent calls rang today at 3pm 27/10/10 . It rings you pick it up. It goes dead. Does some moron get paid for the number of calls made? If its Insulation Firms I'd like to fill their cavities.

Just answered the 'phone this morning but the caller rang off. I am at home, off-work sick, and the last thing I want is having to answer unsolicited calls as the exertion in reaching the 'phone exacerbates my condition.

Apparently the number is not allocated so who is calling and how are the able to use this number?

After reading some of the comments above all I can do is try to have these calls barred.

Second time in a week that they've called. Last time asked me details of my next door neighbours but after I'd given their surname I 'woke up' and became suspicious. Why phone me?
Today they just hung up when I answered. I googled the number last time and they're some sort of debt collecting agency expecting me to help with their research I suppose.

Had this call a couple of days ago but didn't get to check the number until now.

I have had several silent calls from this company. They use a faked return number so you cannot call them back. That should be the first alarm bell! Today I finally got someone to answer.
I got the company name out of him E X ENERGY. I have reported them to the TPS people as I am registered of course. 01792 is as someone has said a Swansea number and they may well have their call centre there because I am from there originally and recognised the accent of the caller.
I would URGE PEOPLE to report these people to the TPS via their website as the TPS people are only likely to act if they get enough complaints.

They are able to use a false number by simply entering a false number in the software that runs their system.

just had a phone call from this very same number.
if i don't know the number, i just don't pick it up.

but seconds later... TALK TALK customer service rang from a 0800 number.
they also trade under Carphone warehouse, Tiscali.

if everyone here has had dealings with Talk Talk, maybe as a internet provider.
they will have your telephone number on their records.
And i wouldn't be at all surprised  if it was them.

I've had two of these calls in the past few days - both ending up as silent calls.

Instead of the "number not recognised" message when calling back this time, there was a recorded message: "The number you have called is not assigned to any of our customers.  If you would like to purchase this number see AQL.com/telephony..."
So I called AQL on 01133203040.  The story I was given is that they are not responsible for this number because it has been "spoofed" so that it shows in caller ID and 1471 but is not the real number that's actually calling.  The rep said that AQL is "powerless" to prevent this but it has occurred when a potential customer was shown the list of numbers by AQL which they have for sale.  This number has then been used to mask calls from a different source.
It is apparently my job to ask BT to block the number, not theirs.  The complacency is staggering.

Two days on the run this number has called us but hangs up as soon as we pick the phone up.
