- ScepticalYep, had a call today (13/9/11) from Central County Court of London, my agent was Indian and called Kevin Smith, same story of £4,856.00 cheque waiting for me as a result of charges being wrongly stopped from my bank account. He said I made the claim in 2008 which to be honest I couldn't remember, he said that he would send an agent round to my house to deliver the cheque, gave me cheque number, security item number and money access code which he said I should quote to the agent when he came. The agent (Melvyn Phillips) would accompany me to the bank to deposit the cheque and when I was satisfied I would hand him a Ukash voucher for £278. I said I could give a cheque but he said no it had to be a Ukash voucher, told me where the nearest place to me was to get a Ukash voucher as I'd never heard of them before. I wanted to check this out so told him I could not get the voucher straight away he agreed to call me back at the end of this week when I had it.
Firstly I called the Central County Court of London to check if they had anyone called Kevin Smith working for them and to check the number he gave me. Sure enough they didn't know who he was and didn't recognise the number he gave me. The number he gave me was 020 88199814.
I then rang my local police and gave them all the information, they told me that this bank charge scam is happening all the time, these people also phone saying they are from Microsoft and wanting access to your computer to repair damage for a fee. The officer put the number in Google and came up with the forum on the scam. Be warned, if it sounds too good to be true it often is. All details of Kevin Smith have been passed to the crime unit and hopefully they will catch these people. The police told me that the more people who report these calls the closer they get to catching them so please if you have a similar call get all the information you can then call your local police. Lets catch them before they fleece anyone else.- Caller: Central County Court of London
